Should I take my daughter out of school to watch her sister play at the Royal Albert Hall?

My eldest daughter is playing at the Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I'm going and was going to go with my parents. Unfortunately they can't go now as my Dad is having an operation so they have two spare tickets. I can't find anyone to give them to, so I thought of taking my daughter, who is in Year 6. Would school authorise it? Should I take her anyway? What would you do?

I'd definitely take her. It'll be great for you all to support her and a fantastic experience for your Y6 daughter. I don't see why the school wouldn't support it.

BrutusMcDogface · 04/11/2018 22:47

I'd like her to go, if it were me. Even if the school doesn't authorise it (my kids' school wouldnt!) it's worth taking her- assuming it's not sats week or anything!)

We did this ! (For a choir thing) and absolutely would again if we had been part of the orchestra thing. We had such an amazing day and it was special to be able to share it and chat on the trip home. We went to a museum too!

It is such a fantastic event (I've been twice as an adult and wish I could have gone as a child) that I think it's a great idea to take your Y6 DD even without the added reason of her sister taking part. Definitely worth missing a bit of school for...

Pooleschoolschoice · 04/11/2018 22:50

My school didnt authorise it (I dont think many would) but also didn't fine...

Reaa · 04/11/2018 22:50

Do the dates clash with SATS tests at all?

FadedRed · 04/11/2018 22:51

Definitely take your daughter, what an amazing thing for your daughters.
I would hope the school would support you in this, but wouldn’t let it
stop you if they weren’t.

NoSquirrels · 04/11/2018 22:55

Our school would turn a blind eye to this - not authorise it but encourage the experience. They’d just put it down as unauthorised absence but it’s one day so it would make no difference to anything. Royal Albert Hall is amazing, it will be special.

Rachelover40 · 04/11/2018 22:56

I'd take her, no question.

If they class it as unauthorised absence will they fine for one day?

iogo · 04/11/2018 23:27

They won't fine you for one day, especially if her attendance is normally good.

Moodymmai1 · 04/11/2018 23:31

No, it doesn't clash with SATS

I spoke to the Headteacher this morning and they've actually authorised it!

Great! And so they should! 👍

NoSquirrels · 05/11/2018 23:08

Oh brilliant! That’s great. Enjoy guilt-free!

BiddyPop · 08/11/2018 09:43

Apart from being a great day out, surely the music performance part actually is educational so I am not surprised it was authorized!! Enjoy
