Suggestions for an almost-independent reader...

DD is almost able to read a book by herself, but gets frustrated at words she doesn't get and gives up.
Im trying to find which books have fairly simple vocabulary to give her some confidence.
Any ideas?

How old is she? How long are the books she can almost read?

What does she enjoy? I found some cat books for my DD when she was nearly and independent reader (‘Bad Kitty’ series and a fun book with quotes from ‘Grumpy Cat’).
Because she was really interested in the subject, she was desperate to read them.
Within a few weeks she was then a strong enough reader to read the Worst Witch books - again something which she was very keen to read.

Oh and she also managed to read a pretty awful book about unicorns by Nosy Crow publishers (I forget the name of the book). It’s a bit like the Rainbow fairy series.
These books are the kind of stories that adults can’t stand, but they are simple and formulaic - brilliant for first independent reading.

She likes funny stuff and resisted the stereotypical fairies and unicorns genre for ages, but seems to be leaning that way now.
Thank you for the suggestions so far.

And she is just 8, so in Year 3. She manages to read most words when I'm with her, but on her own loses track of the story as she misses too many 'difficult' words.

You could try something like Dave Pigeon. My DD found that hilarious.

Thank you, I've downloaded the ebook of Dave pigeon from the library so we'll give that a try!
