The cursed child and fantastic beasts?
Are they any good?

I have seen cursed child and it is terrible beyond belief. They seem to think that a lot of cape twirling and swishing about makes up for a complete and utter lack of anything resembling a decent plot. Characters are unrecognisable in their actions, and it’s just really bad. Don’t waste your money. Fantastic beasts came across very try hard to me...

I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. In my world, the spin offs don’t exist Wink

I just came on to say I didn’t read Cursed Child but I did go and see it. I loved being immersed back into that world and absolutely loved it. If you look too much into it you could say it didn’t work but let yourself get into and just enjoy it for the Harry Potter world and I think it was really enjoyable

Massive Harry Potter Fan. Used to spend ages on forums discussing theories etc. and speculating about what would happen in subsequent books.

Enjoyed cursed child as a bit of a guilty pleasure and liked the way it took the piss out of a few things in a gentle way. But agree it is appallingly written and I would have loved to be involved in editing it (heavily!)

Loved fantastic beasts and looking forward to seeing the next one.

Also like jk rowling’s other stuff.

I agree with what Matilda said about Cursed Child. If I think about too much I have loads of problems with the plot and characterization. That said I always stop reading Deathly Hallows before the epilogue.

I went to see Cursed Child when it was still in previews. As a play, I found it incredible; it was visually spectacular, the acting was excellent, it was emotional...as a piece of fanfiction it was highly entertaining. However, as a supposedly canon Harry Potter story, it was massively disappointing. Established canon was contradicted, characterisation was completely off, Teddy wasn't even mentioned, and don't get me started on the whole concept of Delphi!

I loved Fantastic Beasts though, and am really looking forward to Crimes of Grindelwald. I thought the characters were well fleshed out and developed (I loved Tina as a character especially), and found myself genuinely worried about Modesty's fate, which is exactly how I felt about characters in the original Harry Potter series. Plus, as they are entirely new stories I can watch the films without getting upset that all my favourite bits have been left out.
