Either being read to them or to read by themselves?
Looking to place an order and refresh ds’s bookshelves.
TIA Smile

Kes Gray - Daisy and the trouble with series. And the Jack series slightly more, although there seem to be not many of the.

Horrible Georgraphy and Horrible Science - the ones with larger print.

Mr Gum, some David Williams, Harry Potter, captain underpants, dogman

DD loves the My Little Pony and Equestria Girls, probably not for your DS, but she also loves David Walliams, Harry Potter, Roald Dahl, Horrid Henry (bleurgh). DS started reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Tom Gates at that age.

The shapeshifter books by Ali Sparkes are a huge hit.

Babybearsporij · 03/11/2018 21:40

Mine's massively into Harry Potter at the moment.

She's also been enjoying:

Swallows & Amazons series
Five Children & It
Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Indian in my Pocket
Worst Witch series
She also likes the books by Isla Fisher - can't remember the titles right now.

OnMyWhistle · 03/11/2018 21:43

Anything by Roald Dahl
Beast Quest
Anything by Jeremy Strong

FrederickCreeding · 03/11/2018 21:47

Harry Potter, Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton.

The treehouse books by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton have also been a huge hit. The thirteen storey treehouse is the first one in the series.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 03/11/2018 21:48

The Pamela Butchart series that includes things like 'My head teacher is a vampire'.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’m going to check them out.
He’s a reluctant solo reader (usually just at bedtime when I don’t mind him reading after we’ve had a story together and I’ve turned out the lights!) but actually think he would be more inclined to read some non fiction animal books now I think about it.
Although we definitely need to update our collection with books for us to read together too.
He has big sisters who have passed down the mr gum/David walliams/roald Dahl types but other than the RD, nothing has really tickled his fancy.
He has deemed Tom Gates ‘okay’ (I loved those with dds!) so we have pretty much all of those too if he’ll let me read them to him!

Famous five and Holly Webb mostly.

My 6yo is reading the Animals of Farthing Wood series by Colin Dann and loves them (though needs help with some words). I read them aged 8 and loved them too!

Elflocks · 06/11/2018 21:46

Olga da Polga by Michael Bond

Popfan · 06/11/2018 22:09

Harry Potter is wasted on a 7 year old. Wait till they are older otherwise they miss out on so much of the story. They are quite complicated books with lots of and hugely above the comprehension abilities of a child of that age (even if they can read the words).

Cauliflowersqueeze · 06/11/2018 22:10

Someone will be on in a minute to say their child likes War and Peace and has learnt it off by heart.
