Sanitary towels

I know this has probably been done to death but can anyone recommend sanitary towels that don't feel plasticky and smell like air freshener.

Bodyform. I use the extra long ones as I am somewhat chunky and feel more secure. Cottony feel and unscented.

Tesco and Sainsbury own brand ones are air-freshener-stink free, and feel comfortable.

in a minute someone will be on here singing about reusable sanitary towels and how your killing the planet if you dont use them

PatchworkElmer · 03/11/2018 18:31

I used Bodyform until this month, and have now switched to reusable. It’s going ok so far, and much more comfortable than disposables.

PatchworkElmer · 03/11/2018 18:32

whatsthestory hi!!😂

PatchworkElmer · 03/11/2018 18:33

I’m not evangelical about it though. Just seeing if they’re ok, mainly because I find disposables unbearably uncomfortable.,

whatsthestory123 · 03/11/2018 18:33

lol patch

DeltaZulu89 · 03/11/2018 18:38

I’ve never encountered scented ones! I didn’t know they were a thing until I came on MN. Maybe I’m just not sniffing enough...
In answer to your question, I know they aren’t technically sanitary towels, but the thin Tena lady liners are v good month round. No smell.

Theweasleytwins · 03/11/2018 18:38

I like the Sainsbury's ones- like 85p for 12? And unscented

PinguDance · 03/11/2018 18:39

I’m here to talk about reusable sanitary towels! I like them - worth trying at least.

Racecardriver · 03/11/2018 18:41

Libra (owned by same company as body form) do the best but I have only been able to find them in Australia. Miles better than anything you can buy in Britain. If anyone knows where I can buy them over here please let me know.

dementedpixie · 03/11/2018 18:44

I don't know how you've never encountered scented ones tbh as most of the Always range is scented and the sanitary towel aisle stinks. Most of bodyform is unscented and Dd likes the Kotex range but that's mostly found in discount chemists

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2018 18:47

OMG nobody has mentioned a mooncup yet? Shock

I just go for supermarket own brand. Always Infinity are brilliant though and unscented.

gigi556 · 03/11/2018 18:57

Not everyone wants to or can use an internal product. I use washable pads and have been trying out a menstrual cup my last couple of cycles. I prefer washable pads.

OP, it's definitely worth trying washable pads. I really wish I had sooner.

kaytee87 · 03/11/2018 18:59

I've ordered the pads @sleepismysuperpower1 posted.

Just come off the mini pill 2 weeks ago. Haven't had a period in ages and was dreading the horrible plastic, sweaty pads.

I wonder if scented pads are like tasting cucumber - only some people have the gene to smell them?

I can meet new women for the first time or sit in a train carriage, and smell the scent. I never smell period menses at all!

whatsthestory123 · 03/11/2018 19:12

looks a good choice op

wheresmyhairytoe · 03/11/2018 19:13

Another one to mention reusables. Honestly I love mine, I was unable to use my mooncup the other month so had to rely on just washable pads. The amount they hold is unbelievable and they are so much more comfy than disposables. And yes the planet 😉

tectonicplates · 03/11/2018 19:19

Bodyform aren't scent-free any more, since they changed their ingredients a few months ago. The new packaging says "perfume free" but it's a barefaced lie. Can you tell I'm annoyed?!

I have a couple of packets of the old-style Bodyform left, and when I finish them, I shall be trying Sainsbury's own brand as recommended by numerous people here.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/11/2018 19:27

I have just started using washables - I have a bit of stress incontinence so I always wear a pad, but I think it was causing irritation, so I am trying the reusables - we will see if it helps.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 03/11/2018 19:30

Another one using washable pantyliners (which double up as sanitary towels on light/mid days). I don't wear them with every outfit as they're quite chunky and I worry they might show when wearing leggings etc, but I do find them really comfortable because they're so soft.

PatchworkElmer · 03/11/2018 20:08

tectonic that’s really interesting because I got on really well with Bodyform, but my last couple of periods I was close to tears because of how uncomfortable I was. This is why I’ve made the jump to reusable.

Purplefrogshoes · 03/11/2018 21:09

Always sensitive are the only ones I use
