Hospital bed

I'm not brave enough for AIBU right now so please don't be too harsh on me!

I was admitted to hospital this morning by my GP for urgent assessment and IV drugs following an infection.

I had almost the same problem last year but that developed rapidly in to sepsis so I am
already feeling a bit concerned when we arrive.

6 hours later I am finally seen by a dr in Acute admissions and although I have been given drugs I am being admitted for at least 48 hours if not longer and yet due to a lack of beds I am on a trolley. So many patients have been brought in since I arrived, all have been seen quickly and have beds and yet I am stuck on a bloody trolley with my foot raised up on a table as apparently there isn't enough beds or pillows to go around.

I'm a good 20 years younger than anyone else on the ward but surely this isn't fair?!

Sorry you’re poorly op. No it isn’t fair and there’s nothing worse when you’re feeling dreadful, but it’s so common unfortunately. 90 year old mum was on a trolley in the corridor for many hours due to a lack of available beds. They really are stretched to capacity. Hopefully you get allocated a bed soon. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

So sorry that you are going through this. Hope that you get allocated a bed very soon 💐
Is there talk of you being admitted to the Clinical Decisions Unit rather than a ward ?

Pavlova31 · 02/11/2018 21:42

Read too fast . Did not realise you are on a ward already .
Hope you are feeling better very soon 💐

Thanks everyone
The head of admissions must be a MNer as about 2 mins after writing my post I had a lovely nurse come in and say I wasn't being treated fairly so they had found me a bed!

Welcome to modern Britain Sad it’s crap isn’t it? It’s a bloody disgrace that we don’t have enough hospital beds, this is a first world Country not the third world.

Wishing you a speedy recovery- and a bed!

missyB1 · 02/11/2018 21:48

nocoolnamesleft · 02/11/2018 22:22

Fucking austerity. Glad you have a bed now.

paffuto · 02/11/2018 22:25

Oooh! Santa, tell us moreSmile Are you sure you weren't dreaming or under effects from meds?

missyB1 · 02/11/2018 22:26

Who could you have sex with in a hospital bed? Shock

IHeartKingThistle · 02/11/2018 22:40

Poor you OP.

It's not bad everywhere though. I had an ambulance to hospital yesterday morning and was there till 9pm and aside from waiting a while for the ambulance the care I had was AMAZING. I've never had any sort of medical episode before and I couldn't believe how well I was looked after. Maybe Thursday mornings are a good time to get sick though?

IHeartKingThistle · 02/11/2018 22:40

Sorry, that was a bit garbled, I'm still a bit wobbly!

claracluck78 · 02/11/2018 22:51

Oh I bloody love the NHS so I'm not moaning so much now I have my bed!

I've had some stellar treatment in the past five years - maternity care & so much care with my twins c-section, then amazing treatment for my kids, and last year they saved my life and now they are nipping problems in the bud. (This will all have outed me to any of my friends on here!)

In fairness, trolies should be fine for most people for up to sixteen hours.

Santaisgettingbusy · 03/11/2018 07:23

Ds was a few months old and just wasn't gaining weight, happy and content just tiny! Wanted him in for a few days to monitor. We had our own room.
Dh was allowed to stay - and me!
Well we hadn't realised we would be in over Valentine's day.....
Woke really early and ds was asleep.....
