Teenage locusts)

Totally exasperated at my cupboards literally being stripped bare within 24 hours of Shopping!

Anything 'nice' is literally sniffed out at 100 paces and devoured - so much so I have taken to hiding anything I want to keep for myself!

Guess my question is what snacks do you give your teens to keep them goth between meals? Neither are they keen on bread/cereal or yoghurts!

Surely there must be options that are cheap, nutritious and don't leave a trail of destruction in their construction!!

Nuts (I portion a big bag out into smaller pots), pepperami, crisps, apples and grapes. Have had spates of buying pot noodle type things and occasionaly protein bars.

DH has said when he and his brother were this age they had a freezer full of cocktail sized Cornish pasties that they were told to bake for themselves if they were hungry. My parents used to buy 40 packs of instant noodles because noodles plus the soup really fills you up! (like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00ZIVMLGW/ref=mpssa113aa_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1541160319&sr=8-3&keywords=instant%2Bnoodles&dpPl=1&dpID=51OrZFLQnUL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1)

Our toastie machine is used quite often

Gingernuts are 22p a pack from Asda

But they should be cooking for themselves really

Liquids can help, thick soups with a roll or homemade milkshakes and smoothies.
I know you said not keen on bread, is that in any form? I’m thinking wraps, toasted tea cakes, English muffins, crumpets etc.
Cheese scones
Crudités and hummus
Cold fritata, easy to make a large one and store in the fridge.
Cold hard boiled eggs

Salsa, hummus, tzatziki and things they can dip...mini pita, breadsticks, vegetables cut up, tortillas, crisps.

Hard boiled eggs.

Cheese and crackers.

Beans on toast.

Tuna packets.

Nuts.

Yoghurts.

Apple slices topped with peanut butter. Ocassionally sprikled with chocolate chips.

Mine managed to be goths all by themselves.

Popcorn, the type they have to go pop in a pot, can give you bowls of the stuff without a big outlay.

Slices of cucumber, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes.

Breadsticks

Grapes, satsumas, apples, melon cut into pieces. I often find that prepared fruit etc, put in boxes and left easily seen, gets eaten quickly.

Potato wedges , cut baking tatties into wedges leaving skin on, lightly coat in oil, bung in oven. Can be topped with grated cheese or use flavoured oils such as garlic or chilli oil.

I only have the one and hats a constant battle, how people manage with multiple teens is a mystery to me!
I had a wry chuckle to myself in Waitrose last week, remembering the lovingly prepared, organic meals I used to serve up. All fruit (organic of course) was washed and sliced, meat was free range at the very least and the idea of a ready meal for my precious child gave me a fit of the vapours.
Nowadays I'm even lobbing Essentials cocktail sausages into my trolley, that's how low my standards have fallen Grin

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/11/2018 15:42

Quesadillas. I keep a box of pre-grated (by me) cheese in the fridge and there are always plenty of wraps in the cupboard because they stay in date for ages. Squidge of hot sauce or bbq sauce, handful of greens and some cheese in a folded wrap toasted in a dry pan is easy, quick and not messy. They seem to fill my plague of locusts up well enough!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 02/11/2018 15:46

cheap cheese, tonnes of ham, vats of butter
thickest bread you can buy
never buy a small jar of anything
six pinters of milk
metricfucktonnes of marshmallows and cheapo chocolate for hot chocolate...to be garnished with a tin of squirty cream.

"Guess my question is what snacks do you give your teens to keep them goth between meals?"

Some black hair dye and eyeliner?

Tinklewinkle · 02/11/2018 16:00

Bread - loaves and loaves of it with marmite spread an inch thick
Those small cheese and tomato frozen pizzas
Fruit - stuff like melon but I cut it up and chuck it in a tub in the fridge
Cocktail sausages/mini sausage rolls
Biscuits - I just buy a couple of those Biscuit Barrel packs from Asda
Milk - I’m considering buying a cow Grin
Bags of tortilla chips and cheap cheese - they sprinkle grated cheese on a packet of tortillas and microwave it
