What's the most dangerous thing you have survived?

Curious about all kinds of narrow squeaks, really. I find it fascinating because they can be dramatic or terrifying like a car accident or being held up at knifepoint, or something that happens in the blink of an eye and death/ serious damage is averted thanks to sheer good luck! I seem to have had a fair few of the latter experiences (falls off horses, best friend pulling me out of the way of a bus by a hair's breadth, etc) but no big event.

I love how tough human beings are and what we can survive. What's the maddest and baddest thing you have survived?

@Pibplob

4x ex partners every time I dump someone they try and kill me pretty much 🙄

Kidnap was by own DM a few times and once by a rogue taxi driver with a baseball bat who wouldn't take me to the cash point or accept just short of the (overpriced and ever increasing) fare after my mate jumped out and left me short, never again!

bumblebee39 · 04/11/2018 19:27

Although I did neatly get stabbed by a girl over a boy when I was young so I guess that's x5 really...

People think I'm a nice middle class girl but I'm a closet gangster 🙈

I forgot the two times I've been put up at gun point too...

safariboot · 04/11/2018 19:29

My mother had a copper IUD. Didn't stop her getting pregnant with me!

I was threatened with a small hand gun when a drugged up person thought I had euthansed their dog by mistake. I was able to calm him down and find out that his dog had in fact been sent to a rescue centre. He went on his way and I locked up the practice. I got home, locked myself in and cried for an hour. In my heart I was sure it wasn't loaded though.

Some years earlier I had been shot at by some random bloke with a rifle as I drove by him in the dark. I drove directly to a police station and the bullet was lodged in the head lining of the car and had dinted the bodywork upwards from the inside having come through and broken the passenger window. The Police investigated it but nothing came of it.

I nearly drowned in a pool when they turned on the wave machine. I went from fear to not giving a shit when someone pulled me clear.

Anaphylactic shock .
Being in Sharm airport at the same time as the Russian plane carrying the bomb . We disembarked to lots of messages saying another flight had blown up . Always think , what if they’d changed their mind at the last minute and put it on a British plane ..

LondonLassInTheCountry · 05/11/2018 10:09

Nearly drowned in the sea in Mexico when a storm was brewing

Fell onto a glass coffee table when I was 3. Glass tipped up and just missed my right eye, I have a very visible scar from eyebrow to bottom of eye

The coffee table was gotten rid of the same day

Caught Measles when I was about 3 and it nearly killed me, I was unconscious for just over 3 weeks and when I regained consciousness I couldn't remember how to do things that most 3 year olds could do, I had to re learn how to talk, walk, eat and drink etc. I don't remember anything from before I caught measles and my sight and hearing was permanently affected.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 02/06/2022 14:10

I had nasty pre eclampsia, verging on Hellp when DS was born at 39 weeks. I remember going to the bathroom in the night and seeing the Michelin Man staring back at me.

DH is really the one with 9 lives; he was attacked by an elephant as a child, was very nearly caught up in 7/7 and survived a cardiac arrest in a field with no resultant cognitive issues.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 02/06/2022 14:11

29 weeks, obviously!

It used to be possible to cross under the Great Pyramid in Giza. You went down a ramp and crawled along duckboards . It is a narrow passage, no room to turn round, can’t stand upright. Very, very dark. The man in front of us had some sort of attack (panic? It wouldn’t be surprising, it was terrifying, as soon as I went down I wished I hadn’t) we had to crawl back wards for what seem like years as he wasn’t moving forwards.

I now believe in the curse of the Pharaoh.

P.s. when we had made it out, the guy at the ticket entrance asked us for baksheesh (every single thing you did, they asked for baksheesh = gratuity) . We didn’t stump up. I suspect that the whole stunt was illegal. Though we were just knobheads to think it would be interesting.

I also got knocked over by a moped in Spain because I was looking the wrong way before I crossed the road. I think I’m probably better off at home.

The M25.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/06/2022 14:52

Being born and having my daughter. We don’t deliver well in my family.

Deathraystare · 02/06/2022 15:08

Blimey, some people have had more than their fair share...

Nothing much has happened to me (and long may it continue!). I was run over when young but remember nothing about it, in fact a nurse asked me why I was there which I thought was strange nut now I realise they wanted to make sure my memory was alright!

Also as a baby I tried to haul myself up and burnt my hand very badly on some heating thing, not sure what, but my skin melted! My mum is rubbish in these sorts of situations and just took me round to the doctor who prescribed lavender water!

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/06/2022 15:09

Being trapped in a bombed building.

Babyroobs · 02/06/2022 15:14

Bad crash on the motorway where I got spun in front of an HGV then bounced off the other side of it and ended up facing the wrong way on the hardshoulder. Literally just had a slight mark from my seatbelt.

TimBoothseyes · 02/06/2022 15:16

Pressed too soon.
The M25. Narrowly missed being side swiped by a lorry which would have pushed me into the side of another one coming up the inside lane. I still get flashbacks about that every time I drive that section of the motorway.

SantiMakesMeLaugh · 02/06/2022 15:18

The number of people saying childbirth is scary tbh

MrsAvocet · 02/06/2022 15:22

I've been struck by lightning and walked away with just a slight burn and I've been badly injured in a car crash but am still here!

ArisaMiura · 02/06/2022 15:29

Being held at knifepoint at 3 am in a fairly deserted area. My life did noy flash before my eyes, but time did slow down...

balkangrill · 02/06/2022 15:29

War, including time in concetration camp, several bombs exploding rather close, running in the sniper alley.
And now I am annoyed if milk carton won't open properly 😁
