I’m 5foot 1 and weigh 15 stone

Shameful. I’m actually embarrassed to type that. In 4 years I’ve piled on over 5 stone. I’m shattered constantly, get out of breath easily, nothing fits me and just generally ashamed of myself.

I go away in 6 weeks so aiming to have lost a stone by Christmas and then we’ll see how I get on from there. Is anyone else in the same position? I went to a party at the weekend and refused to have my photo taken but last night I saw some photos with me in the background and I looked horrendous.

Planning on doing 5:2 as that worked really well for me before. Does anyone else want to join me?

Oh and none of my clothes fit me and I’m getting out of breath just putting my socks on Sad

I don't know whether I'm ok to join but I'm 10st and 5ft with a bmi of 28. It doesn't sound that bad but I have put on 2st in the last 12 months so I really want to loose at least 1.5st. I have already been trying for the last 6 weeks but have only lost 4lb so get really frustrated and then eat chocolate. Maybe some support may help me. If I'm not ok to join then just say

Good luck! It’s great that you have the motivation to make yourself happy and healthy. I tried 5:2 but I don’t cope with hunger. I’ve always had success with Slimming World. My friend started in June and just got her 3 stone badge so that’s always worth considering too if 5:2 doesn’t work out for you. I need to lose a couple of stone but I have so much on my plate (literally!) at the moment I can’t even think about adding in an eating plan.

Babdoc · 01/11/2018 07:48

Just want to send you some encouragement. You’ll start to feel less breathless and tired even losing just that first stone, and I hope that motivates you to lose the next one, and so on. Use whichever diet regime works for you and that you can stick to, but in the longer term you need to look at the eating habits that caused you to pile the weight on originally. Otherwise you’ll simply put it back on when the diet ends.
Don’t feel ashamed of yourself - try instead to love your body and give it the healthy food and exercise it needs. Take pride in each pound you lose, give yourself credit and praise for being good to your body.
You can do this, OP! Good luck.

Yeah of course you’re ok to join!! I’m just about to get out of bed and already I’m thinking of what breakfast I can have from Starbucks. Aghhh I think I need to retrain my brain completely

Oh thank you for the good lucks!! I have tried slimming world before (several times Blush) but it just didn’t really work with me because things like potato’s were free so I’d have a full bag of potatoes and obviously that’s not good in anyone’s world.

Do you think joining a gym will help? Obviously excercise is good for me but should I wait till I’ve (hopefully) lost a bit first? I was thinking of doing the couch to 5k

I’d start with things like upping your steps per day. Do you have a Fitbit or a smartphone to use a tracker? Swimming is a great all-rounder too. I like to do yoga routines off of YouTube in my lounge as it settles your tummy and helps you sleep which all contributes to a positive lifestyle change 👍🏻

Bunnyhop1502 · 01/11/2018 07:55

And you can still go to Starbucks! Skinny latte and a fruit salad?

VictoriaBun · 01/11/2018 08:03

Rather than immediately join a gym, why not first try getting out for a walk every day. Set a route of at least 20-30 mins of walking and then once you feel comfortable ( and stop puffing ) get faster and set yourself a challenge . Then join a gym or incorporate other forms of exercise.
I'm your height and have weighed more than you so it is achievable. Good luck.

WeightWatching · 01/11/2018 08:08

Thanks Bunnyhop, I’ve had a look at the Starbucks website and a short latte with skimmed milk is only 60 calories! Shame the chocolate chip shortbread is 526...

VictoriaBun yeah in thinking of going for a 30 minute walk on my lunch break every day ( we get a hour) and hopefully it’ll stop me feeling so sluggish in the afternoon

The walk is a good idea. I have just been diagnosed with a chronic illness that means exercise is almost out of the question. all I want to do is sleep and eat! Arghhh

Spongeface · 01/11/2018 10:33

I'm with you. Just over 14stone... Can't believe it. 'normal' weight 12 stone but I would love to be 11 stone. Can't stop eating. Have stopped doing shift work so hoping it magically drops off. Also thinking of joining a gym or doing couch to 5km.. sorry not much help but I'm in the same boat!

Good luck, WeightWatching Why not join us too on the latest 5:2 main thread:

Lots of tips and info in the OP
We're a very friendly bunch and all are welome.

Main thing, whatever diet you choose, is to stick to it until goal weight, then go onto a defined maintenance plan
If you return to your old WOL, then you'll return to your old weight & waist
