She's in college, she has a meeting next week. Can they remove her from the course or can they not do that anymore?

If they feel she will not benefit from going and not going to pass the course due to her absence then yes, they will remove her.

No, I don’t think they’ll remove her. My eldests attendance was a LOT lower than that (I think it went down to 26% at one point). She was leaving for college every day, so I didn’t realise at first. There were a few ‘pull your socks up’ meetings, which she would do for a while. I found the college to be VERY patient and understanding. Finally she was given the ultimatum that if her attendance wasn’t 100% from then on, and she didn’t pass all her AS levels, she would be unable to sit the second year. She was a little older, as she’d taken a BTec first but then decided to do A levels.
Although she passed 2 very well, she failed one, and they stuck to their guns, and offered her the alternative of a one year access course, which she’s really enjoying.

Ive gone off at a bit of a tangent, sorry, but in short, she was given many many chances. Is there a reason why your daughters attendance is low? It’s very early days, so I guess a week off with flu or something could really knock the percentage.

Depends on the college. Dd was at a college where they regularly kicked students out for low attendance....

EduCated · 01/11/2018 08:14

It will also depend on the circumstances, a low percentage because she’s had one big bout of absence due to a particular illness would be viewed differently to a low percentage for lots of bits of time off with no particular reason or explanation.

She will certainly be warned about it, is there any specific reason which additional support can help? It used to be that attendance gad to be at least 80% to qualify for an accredited award and college to receive funding for the student from SFA.
