"Boys don't get nits" and other bollocks you've heard lately

I was told yesterday that boys never get nits! I didn't know headlice had inbuilt penis detectors. My son's hair is longer than many of the girls at his nursery so we'll soon see how that works out 🤣 what total bollocks have you been told lately?

Disclaimer: this thread is lighthearted.

Well i have 3 boys and can dispel that myth

Xiaoxiong · 31/10/2018 22:06

Well DS1 told me that there is a ranch in Utah that attracts UFOs. He was given a "true unexplained mysteries!!!!!" reading book at school full of utter bollocks and believed every bit of it - Bermuda Triangle, Uri Gellar, Bigfoot, all sorts of rubbish. It's been great telling him to think critically about it all.

And more seriously, I was told by some numbskull sitting at the next table in Costa today that they should stop doing flu jabs as they cause the flu. So if they stop doing jabs - no more flu!

I have a boy with short hair. His twin sister has waist length hair.

She has never had nits, he has.

Not quite true but I have heard that men can't get headlice due to the testosterone in their blood. Little boys still can get it.
No reputable source other than school gate scientists.

PumpkinSpiceAmericanoNoSugar · 31/10/2018 22:16

That's not true about men and testosterone repelling head lice, when the DC had them both DH and I had them too. There is a little bit of truth in that head lice don't like very short hair, and boys are more likely to have very short hair. DS used to catch them in school and when he got home they would transfer to DD and from there to the rest of us but the lice didn't tend to stay in his hair for long because it was so short.

Um no they can't jump ...

I can show the person who told you that quite a few that I combed out yesterday from 2 boys!

Horrible bloody things.

Juanbablo · 01/11/2018 05:37

My daughter has never had nits. Both my boys have. So she's talking crap.

stationaryace · 01/11/2018 05:44

You don't lose all your teeth as a child, just the front 8.

From my fully grown up sister whose dsd is starting to lose her teeth. The tooth fairy is going to get a shock in that house...

Scarzo · 01/11/2018 05:44

DD1's friend told her on school camp, that, according to her granny, if you tie your hair up when it's damp you can get nits Confused

QuilliamCakespeare · 01/11/2018 05:53

Both of mine had nits. The youngest got them twice in one week.

MsTSwift · 01/11/2018 06:13

You shouldn’t talk at a meal time it is bad for digestion. You should sit in silence, eat your food as quickly as possible then leave the table in silence.

This is what the 3 Chinese students staying with us a month had been taught by parents and teachers. Was a long two weeks....
