Going to Iceland at the weekend. One of our tours has a snowmobile option for £150 each. Should we go for it?

It is great fun! I don’t remember it being tricky. Got a feeling we went as pillion passengers with someone else doing the actual driving.

Definitely do it, we did it in Lapland, 2 of us sharing a snowmobile and taking turns driving. Brilliant fun, I loved it. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

Thanks- I'm thinking we will go for it.

It depends. We booked what I thought would be a lovely evening trek through the mountains. What we got was a terrifying speed trek in the dark where I ended up flipping the vehicle.

I went pillion with my OH driving, but we had to follow the guides on a route just as it was getting dark. No idea where we were or how to get back on our own. I think the guides got a kick out of tearing around at stupid speeds. My OH was able to keep up (he rides motorbikes) and quite enjoyed it. Meanwhile, me, on the back, hanging on for dear life, my screams to stop whipped away in the freezing wind while my cold icy tears streamed across my face... Never. Ever. Again. !

Definitely fun! I went to a camp for visually impaired teenagers in Colorado and we skied, went snowmobiling and inner tubing and all kinds of things. The highlight of the week though for many of us was when they would let the visually impaired teenagers, me being one of them Drive the snowmobiles! I am a very fast driver and the woman on the back got scared. 🤣 I remembered to get back down the mountain the drivers, not the visually impaired, this was a bit beyond us, anyway, they had to hold the brakes and turn everything off because it was a very steep decline through the trees.

Such good fun...was one of the included excursions on a short break we did to Sweden to see the Northern Lights..and we did ... from the snowmobiles.

As I recall you had to be over 16 to take part - big disappointment to our DD who was 13 at the time:(
Only tricky part was lining up at the start and where the snow was churned up it was difficult manoeuvring the vehicle. But if you fall it's onto snow. We did the first mile or so all together in a big crocodile, down the hill, over the main road and then onto a frozen lake.
We had ages out there zooming around under a clear dark sky. Then we saw the greens and blues of the aurora.

Exhilirating just to recall it...great experience (and I'd never been on a motorbike before!)

I think we're going to do it. Should we get one each or share? It's about £300 total to share or £360 For one each...

I would get one each. It's a lot of fun.

I snowmobiled in Iceland! It was a fabulous experience. My oh and I took one between us and took turns. We nearly got lost in a white out that meant we had to go fast, very exhilarating!

VetOnCall · 31/10/2018 21:02

Get one each, it's great fun.

Snowmobiling is great fun!! I grew up in MN in the states, and we drove them around out in the snowy fields as young teenagers without a problem, so I can't imagine as an adult you would have any difficulty with it. Enjoy!!
