Are Halloween and bonfire night connected? What about Christmas and New year?

As far as I know they are all totally separate.

Hallowe'en is not in any way connected to GUy Fawkes Night or "Bonfire Night"

Hallowe'en is "All Hallows Eve" or All saint's Eve, it is the night before All Saints Day. A liturgical period t remember the dead. However goes back to an ealier pagan tradition of Samhain

Guy Fawkes is commemoration of the attmepted terroist attack on the Houses of Parliament and is named after Guido Faawkes, one of the conpsirators (hence a Guy on the bonfire) and fireworks represent the explosions that could have been. I fyou watch the news on the day, they will probably show you the traditional check of the basements of parliament.

Christmas is Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus. There have long been festivities in deep winter, hence you still see terms like "Yule" around CHristmas time. A bit like why we bring trees inside and put shiny balls on them (to fend off evil spirts/witches) - the germanic pagan origins are everywhere in Christmas.

New years day is new years day because of the Romans introducing a new calendar.
