you go back and see the GP?

I felt like shit weeks ago (around 8th Oct). Rode it out for a few days, including bedrest, then went to the GP as it seemed to go away then ramp up. Dr advised she believes it's a virus.

I feel much better but my ears and throat are still both very sore - ears popping and painful, throat dry and irritated and hurts to swallow.

Obviously I am no GP but I can feel what I believe are my glands in my neck that are quite swollen.

WIBU to go back?

Did they swab your throat for strep?

If you're negative for strep give it a few more days, if they didn't test for it go back and request that they do.

cjt110 · 30/10/2018 14:36

MissConductUS No.

Any fever? It sounds a lot like strep.

I go hold/cot/hot/cold on a normal day due to an under active thyroid so I wouldn't know.

Called my surgery to ask for an appointment to be told to call back tomorrow. That they can't just give out appointments for patients convenience...

Under what circumstance do they give out appointments? Smile

cjt110 · 30/10/2018 14:51

Who fucking knows MissConduct

You have to call at 7.30.... sit in a telephone system for an unbeknown time and when it's finally answered they have no appointments left.

I asked if I call tomorrow would there be any appointments "after work" She said their last appointment is at 5.20 which is no use to me as I don't finish until 5.30. I did say it's not her fault but it's very frustrating when you work full-time. She said that it is beacuse they open so early... when you can't get an appointment....

And the first available pre-bookable appointment is the 19th November.... I could be dead by then

Are you me?
I've been feeling exactly the same. Doctor checked my throat, ears, temperature, felt my glands and listened to my chest. She advised paracetamol and plenty of rest and said to come back if I was still the same in 4 weeks Sad

cjt110 · 30/10/2018 15:03

DeadBod I don't think so but this sounds so much like me and I've had enough of it.

I know the Doctors work long hours and all of that but seriously, if you work full-time, and getting out of work for appointments is difficult, how do you do it?

I have several pre-existing medical conditions and as such, I often have to take time out. I can't help it but also try and limit it.

So basically my GP offers appointments between 9am and 5pm which is useless for me :( Unless I want an appointment for 3 weeks time, in which case I can certainly have one at 7.40am.

It must have been a fluke as earlier in the year I rung for tablets to delay periods whilst on holiday. I rung 2 weeks prior to the holiday but the earliest I could get even a telephone appointment was after the holiday had started Confused

I'm T2 diabetic OP and find I can really struggle to shake off nasty colds/viruses. As a rule of thumb, if I've soldiered on for 3 weeks and don't feel any better, I will see our GP.

But we're lucky as they do same day emergencies every morning until 11am and if you get through by 9am, you're normally fairly lucky to get one. That's a small rural practice though.
