Thinking of a day trip to Liverpool next week with Ds.

Possibly visiting the World Museum and Mathew St.

Any recommendations on where to eat? Other places to visit?

Liverpool is my favourite city! You’ll have a great day.

Depends what you’re into, really. The cathedral is nice to see, as well as the area around Albert Dock.

Food wise, there are too many options! Again, it depends what you’re both into. You’ll find LOADS of decent chain places at the top of Liverpool One (TGIs, Pizza Express etc), and places like Red’s True BBQ or Yard & Coop might be a good for your DS.

Thanks PJ. Lots to choose from Grin Can’t wait!

It's a great place for a day trip.

I'd be inclined to centre a visit around what's on at the Everyman Theatre. That puts you in Hope Street, which is full of entertainment architecturally and restoratively.

You could spend the earlier part of the day on Albert Docks - Maritime Museum, Tate Gallery etc. But also take a look at the new-ish Liverpool City Library - the entrance alone is worth a trip and the architecture, again, is glorious.

I'd also consider finding time for a jaunt to Crosby Beach - google it!

So much to see and do! Yes, the museums are brilliant. Also I'd agree about the Georgian quarter near the cathedrals, which is gorgeous, and for food head down Bold Street. It's a lovely friendly city. Enjoy!

RockYourSocksOff · 30/10/2018 13:43

Thanks Quater, some great tips there had a quick search for Hope Street and it looks like a place I’d love to explore!

Crosby beach looks beautiful.

Thanks faerie, off to google Bold Street.

Host or Quarter on/just off Hope Street are good. The Albert Dock is good for museums (take your pick). A hop on hop off bus is a good idea too.

Bowchicawowow · 30/10/2018 13:49

Most of the restaurants on Bold Street are good. My pick of the bunch are The Casbah, the Lebanese one (can’t remember the name), Leaf, Mowgli.

RockYourSocksOff · 30/10/2018 13:50

Bold street on the satellite view looks amazing, not far from Lime St station either which is where I’ll be coming in from.

Bow, I was going to ask about the best method of transport to use. Are they cashless buses?

For lunch we love Leaf on Bold Street.

Bowchicawowow · 30/10/2018 13:58

From memory you buy a ticket which lasts all day for the hop on hop off. Liverpool is quite a small city so you can easily walk from place to place. For Crosby beach you would catch the Southport train from Central station which is close to Lime Street.

QuaterMiss · 30/10/2018 14:04

Oh, if you're starting at Lime Street then I'd head straight to the Walker Art Gallery around the corner. Stroll down to the Library. (There's a new museum on that street but it might be a bit young for a 12 year old.)

Then Bold Street or wherever for lunch. Albert Docks in the afternoon. Cab up to Hope Street later on. Early dinner at The Quarter /Host - then the theatre. Perfect day.

(Stay overnight - do Crosby Beach the next day!)

BarbaraofSevillle · 30/10/2018 14:08

This thread is very timely. I've been meaning to have a day out in Liverpool for a while - lots of helpful ideas.

Can anyone suggest reasonably central and not too expensive parking, or is there a park and ride system? I'd be coming from the M62 and I could either do a weekday or a weekend day and would lean towards the weekend if parking was much cheaper, as it is in my city.

FogCutter · 30/10/2018 14:09

My DS loves the cat cafe (he is cat obsessed though!).

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/10/2018 14:11

No park and ride but you could park at Liverpool South parkway for free and take the train. It’s a 15 min drive from the end of M62 ,train takes about 20 mins.

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/10/2018 14:12

Be cheaper to pay for train than parking in town.

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/10/2018 14:12

Op eat at yard and coop my 13 year old loves it.

Bowchicawowow · 30/10/2018 14:17

Oh Coop is good. Better than Nando’s apparently which is high praise!

BabbysYed · 30/10/2018 14:18

Bold street is great for food as pp have said.
The cat cafe (also Bold street) is also good - the cats are beautiful!
The docks are worth a visit and the art galleries and museums are really good.
Plus the people are so friendly

ShalomJackie · 30/10/2018 14:19

Anfield!

NWQM · 30/10/2018 14:21

Mersey Ferry is great especially if Star Wars fab as exhibition on at Spaceport

Notquiteagandt · 30/10/2018 14:23

Are either of you into music?

The british music experience is meant to be brilliant. Its like a music museum.

Theres a john lennon exhibition in the museum liverpool life.

Head upto the baltic triangle area for casual hipster type places your son would probally find really cool. Very instagram worthy. Go to jamacia st for photo op with the liverbird wings grafetti.

If you can get upto the anglican cathedral you can pay a couple of quid to get up the bell tower. The views of the city are breath taking. Really something worth seeing.

Bold street constantly wins awards for being the best street for quirky independant places in the uk. So plenty places to grab food or a drink/coffee.

The oldest china town in the world outside china is full of nice places to grab dinner.

Infact you could just do a day touring restaurants and coffee shops etc eating 😂

RockYourSocksOff · 30/10/2018 14:30

Some wonderful suggestions here, thank you all.

I need to get back to work now but shall look through them in more detail later!

Cat cafe! Ds would LOVE this! Do you have to book?

OP posts:
BabbysYed · 30/10/2018 14:49

We walked in to the cat cafe , didn’t book, but I would if it was a weekend.
Yes to the Mersey Ferry, it’s a cute experience and you see a lovely view of the Liverpool shoreline.
The cavern club is worth a visit , yes it’s probably the most touristy place in the UK but it has a certain charm.
