Talk to me about heated blankets

I work from home, it gets cold in my house and I'm thinking about a heated blanked as an alternative to heating the whole house. What do I need to buy, any recommendations and are they expensive to use in electricity?

This is the one I have. It's great - very cosy. It's very very cheap to run, too.

SargeantAngua · 30/10/2018 11:52

I have the same one as Hollow. It's wonderful!! Think I got it for less money, maybe on a disability website, but was a couple of years ago.

I have the Lakeland deluxe model was £100 but I love it so much .

Thanks, maybe a Christmas present to me then, I wonder if they will be discounted on black Friday?

We have this one. I baulked at the price but it has been very useful, not least when I had flu and the builders were coming and I had to be at least partly functional all day. I sat on the sofa under it all day snoozing and pretending to be up and about.
It heats up in moments, unlike the one on my bed which I can barely tell is on until I wake up steaming and gasping. So whatever brand you get, the quick-heat and the auto shut-off features are really worthwhile imo.

Bezalelle · 30/10/2018 13:45

They're heavenly. You won't regret it.

MaisyPops · 30/10/2018 13:48

Following with interest as that is probably cheaper than multiple hot water bottles.

jamaisjedors · 30/10/2018 13:50

I love mine (it's one that goes under your sheets.) Our house was very cold and quite often I would get into bed early to watch TV on the tablet rather than sit up in the living room.

misskatamari · 30/10/2018 13:57

oh my god they look amazing! We have one on our bed, but it's an under the sheet one, not a cosy wrap yourself up in one. I want one!!

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/10/2018 14:15

Sorry it’s not 2p an hour the Lakeland one it’s 2p for about 4-5 hours. I use it from 7-11/12pm

Meet0nTheIedge · 30/10/2018 14:17

I was thinking about the throw type but wondering how long the cables are as I like to sit at the far end of the sofa to where the sockets are.

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/10/2018 14:41

I can measure my cable tonight if you like?

Meet0nTheIedge · 30/10/2018 14:45

Thank you. We don't have enough sockets and they are all in awkward places it seems!

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/10/2018 15:08

The lead on mines a good 4ft long, a cheap extension cable would sort out a short lead though.

I got a dark grey fur one last Christmas, the furs not worth the price tag though. I'd have a fleece one and spend the other £50 on something else.

Meet0nTheIedge · 30/10/2018 16:10

We already have a three way extension lead from the plug but it needs to be at the other end of the sofa for a couple of other things. We could possibly rejig but it gets complicated!

doctorboo · 30/10/2018 16:12

I have a family member who was gifted one and was very very negative about receiving it, refused to even try it, until we had that awful bitter winter last year and then they were raving about it and love it almost as much as they love their partner maybe more

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/10/2018 16:18

@Meet0nTheIedge just measured my Lakeland one. Cord is 13 foot!

Meet0nTheIedge · 30/10/2018 16:28

Oh wow! Lakeland always seem to come up to scratch. Thank you Smile.

Widowspeak · 30/10/2018 18:08

Would it be too risky to gift one of these to an elderly family member who sometimes suffers from incontinence problems?

IloveJudgeJudy · 30/10/2018 18:26

I haven't got a heated blanket but I did buy some from QVC - Cozee Home is the make. I think their heated blanket is cheaper than that Lakeland one. The non-heated blankets are lush

SargeantAngua · 31/10/2018 04:28

Some, maybe all, are machine washable if that helps, Widowspeak. The cable disconnects from mine. I disconnect it most of the year and just have it as a sofa blanket, unheated. It's pretty snuggly without the wonderful extra heat!

dingdang · 31/10/2018 05:15

I have the same blanket - it's absolutely amazing..
