School ski trips

Idontmeanto · 29/10/2018 21:01

I’d really appreciate some advice from veterans of school ski trips, please. DD is 16 and going for the first time in January. Where is a good place to buy ski wear, please? She’s tried on a jacket a friend was willing to lend her but swamped her most places and was too tight over the bust. Suggestions for the large of Nork ladies particularly appreciated.
Thanks

eBay. Ski wear is pretty expensive if you want nicely cut stuff.

TK Maxx
Decathlon

We got dd some ski trousers from go outdoors in the sale. Also recommend decathlon and tk max

I wouldn't spend too much if this is going to be a one off or may not enjoy it enough to go again. You can get some good buys on ebay or Sports Direct.

ShellieEllie · 29/10/2018 21:06

Should also have added that Aldi and Lidl is worth a visit when they have ski-wear in.

InProgress · 29/10/2018 21:06

Aldi have their ski event sometime in November/December. It's good quality ski gear for not too much though no idea of the fit for bust size.

CarrotCakeMuffins · 29/10/2018 21:07

Have a look at mountain warehouse, they do a ski package and they were half price in their pre-season sale, plus check online for a voucher code.
Whether their sizing would be right for your DD though I don't know.

Parker231 · 29/10/2018 21:07

If she’s not skied before and doesn’t know yet whether she’s like it or want to go regularly, I’d suggest sticking to eBay. If she doesn’t want to go again you can always resell the items.

elastamum · 29/10/2018 21:09

Decathlon is great for basics. Don't forget to get decent gogles and gloves.

Almondio · 29/10/2018 21:10

Some ski supply shops do kit rental, which is a fantastic way to get all of the necessary items on a budget. Might be worth asking around?

We got Dd lots from the Aldi and Lidl ski event. Aldi had really nice base layers, and socks and helmet. I ordered online and they all arrived very quickly. Jacket the school gave out coupons for 20% off at tresspass. So we got a jacket on sale and had another 20% off. Ski pants were from Amazon, I found them cheaper than ebay, nice ones too, she'll be wearing them again for the next ski trip. Gloves and ski straps from eBay.

Troels · 29/10/2018 21:33

Dd is well endowed in the nork area too, so trying on jackets in person was best. Aldi ski jackets are really nice, lots of pockets.
Goggles, get decent ones, we needed ones that fit over glasses, Amazon was cheapest for us.

EduCated · 29/10/2018 21:34

I found Aldi to be better quality than the equivalent priced items from Go Outdoors.

crumpet · 29/10/2018 21:36

All the above places mentioned, also dds school arranged for a rental company to come in, so they could try on jackets etc for size before placing an order.

Lands end do great sales and great quality stuff

threekiltsandacardy · 29/10/2018 21:38

Currently searching for a ski jacket for dd 15 but this will be her third ski trip.
Decathlon was great for the first year as good quality and not too ££. Good as we didn't know if she would enjoy it and want to go again and we didn't know an awful lot about it!
Last year she was slightly more choosy and bought a Roxy jacket from eBay - loved it and currently looking for a bigger one for her trip in Jan.
decathlon was great as we got goggles, base layers and thermals for not an awful lot. Pretty sure it was free delivery and returns too.

superram · 29/10/2018 21:41

Helmets are usually in the ski hire package. Decathlon or sports direct are good value. I got a jacket for £17 last year.

LadyLance · 29/10/2018 21:44

Decathlon is really good value for ski gear. It may not fit perfectly, but as long as she can move and is warm that is all that really matters. Wearing that many layers doesn't really flatter anyone!

Tatapie · 29/10/2018 21:54

You can get dare2b on Amazon, last seasons will be cheap!

itbemay · 29/10/2018 22:20

DS is off skiing with school in jan and we're hiring £40 all in. Previously when we went skiing as a family we bought our stuff from Aldi, was brilliant and £200 all in for 4 of us
