Mince pies. They're much more of a treat.

rockbird your answer's the best!

I would say hot cross buns, if I had to choose. Toasted, loads of butter.

HXB. Every time.

Definitely hot crossed buns any day of the week but @Mookie81, those FandM mince pies are delish and if you wait until after Christmas has been and gone, also a damn site cheaper

There's nothing better than a toasted hot cross bun buttered, and with a thick slice of mature cheddar on top.

Don't knock it till you've tried it.

Brigante my mother used to ice mince pies too. She called them ‘Swiss tarts’.

I can’t decide. I’ll have to go and buy both in order to do a taste test.

Hot cross buns, toasted, smothered with butter.

Mince pies are lovely, but they're too heavy and a mild PITA to eat if they're the right sort of crumbly. Hot cross buns are a worthy winner of this compo.

SpoonBlender · 29/10/2018 23:13

advice I'd go for wensleydale or white stilton, but I'm not entirely convinced about a cheddar... so I'll try it next time.

Oh god, there's some marscapone in the fridge. That'd be frighteningly good.

/adds "hot x buns" to shopping list

My homemade mince pies.

Shortcrust pastry with mixed spice.

Homemade mincemeat with a good slosh of a lovely brandy.

Hot and slightly crumbly, fresh out of the oven. If no brandy in the mix then a nice dollop of brandy butter or cream.

Cannot beat it.
