Looking for a small heater bit i'm overwhelmed at the choice
Halogen?
Gas?
Fan heater?
Eletric Oil heater?

We had an oil filled electric one (i think it was a dimplex) that was cheap to run but also pumped out a lot of heat. I would definitely recommend it.

I'm not a lover of fan heaters, I don't like the noise and they are very drying. Not tried the others.

Thank you, fan heaters are definitely off the list, I didn't t realise they were noisey.

We use a paraffin heater, it heats the whole house and is very cheap.

We used an oil filled electric one too. Tiny but powerful

Electric oil heater here too. It's wonderful.

The stingiest person I've ever met recommended electric oil-filled radiators, so I'd guess they were very economical! 😂 I bought one in the Lidl WTF aisle for £40. It's amazingly toasty.

We have found the oil filled radiators best, triee most as always lived in places without central heating. Dd and ds both have tiny rooms with no other heating. We have a smallish oil filled heater for both, the silvercrest one for lidl is the latest, heat up quickly and maintain heat well. Make sure the room is as well insulated to contain the heat. They both have thick curtins with an extra thermal/blackout layer as close to the windows as possible, gaps in the windows filled and it stays nice and warm on a very low setting.

Looks like oil filled is a winner.

Big sweater and a fleece blanket?

Sugarsnappy · 29/10/2018 22:01

Just following as I'm interested. My instinct is oil filled, I've seen some in Screwfix but not sure of how good value they are

My daughter bought a onesie which was sooo warm. She forgot to take it with her when she moved away so i use it. It helps when its cold too!

BlackeyedGruesome · 29/10/2018 22:23

two oil filled radiators worked for us last year. though we do have underfloor heating... the bloke downstairs Grin

there were a few old threads on insulating a room to keep the heat in.

YourVagesty · 29/10/2018 22:28

I once read that a tea light candle with a terracotta pot placed over it generates a lot of heat (look it up, t'was a thing) but I never tried it because it's a bit of a strange thing to do. Grin

Oil filled radiators for me!
