Moving to Scotland.. schooling

My family are considering a move from South England up to Scotland, to improve our lifestyle. The only sticking point is schooling. Dd currently very happy in single sex grammar, she's a bright girl and is enjoying the stretch grammar school offers her. Would it be giving up too much to move her into Scottish state secondary education? We can't afford private. Please could you give your experiences and wisdom, Mnetters, I'm going round in circles here. Tia.

Honestly it depends where. Scotland is vast and bits of it are much more remote than any part of England.
In the very rural areas there is the major consideration of travel taking literally hours there and back, which can really take its toll, especially socially.

We're considering Perthshire and Fife, if that helps?

Probably within 10 miles of a town or city for work.

Again Perthshire and Fife are big areas. There are some great schools and some terrible schools in those areas. You’ll need to narrow it down.

Why would moving improve your lifestyle? Less commuting, bigger house? I ask because the difference in house prices in some catchments might actually be school fees. As others have said, it totally depends on where you’re thinking. This map jamestrimble.github.io/imdmaps/simd2016/
shows that Fife, for instance, has areas among both the most and least deprived areas in Scotland.
Have you another reason for moving to Scotland eg family? Why would you choose it over somewhere else in England with cheaper house prices and grammar schools? NB For university fees you need to have lived here three years, not two, before you go.

Well lots of people are successfully educated in Scotland. It's not a small place with one school.

There are lots of amazing schools in Scotland. Your op is borderline rude! Of course you'll be able to find a school where she is academically stretched.

Is your daughter your only child (or the last child you are putting through school)? Can you not hold on until she has left school? I would be reluctant to uproot a teenager unless there were very pressing reasons.

I did exactly that 18 years ago. Moved from Surrey.
I love Scotland and will probably stay here now.
School's are good (I'm in Stirling area) and the scenery is amazing.

The only way to know about a school, is to come up for a visit and check out some schools in the area you're interested in :)
