Restaurant meal on Christmas Day - yay or nay?

DH and I will be by ourselves this Christmas Day. Neither of us have ever been out for Christmas dinner but were thinking of giving it a go this year. Obviously it will depend on the pub/restaurant itself but in general is going out for Christmas dinner worth the (understandably) inflated prices or is it likely to be a massive disappointment?

Basically we'd both like a day off cooking (we'll be doing the full works for DH's kids on Boxing Day) but don't want a takeaway etc.

Fair enough, your kitchen sounds challenging to cook a fancy lunch in. Try Howdens for your kitchen, my db just got his from there.

Also remember that not everyone celebrates Christmas so Christmas day is a normal bank holiday for them. Working on Christmas day is like an ordinary working day with added financial benefits. Some people do celebrate and have to work on Christmas day but some don't.

Sounds lovely, there will be a great atmosphere and no need to brave the shops or cook. Last year we went away for a few nights and it was great.

@ACatsNoHelpWithThat I’d suggest ordering pre-made food from Cook and just heating it up in your tiny kitchen. www.cookfood.net/

Loads of other MN users have used them for Christmas and loved it. You could keep it simple to just three or four items that easily work for your kitchen. A main meat, a side, a starter, then you’re done!
