What behaviour from strangers that is not affecting you in any way really gets on your nerves?

For me, it’s people who keep their coat on when they sit down in a restaurant. We went out for lunch today, two women in ENORMOUS coats at the table next to us, kept them on until partway through their meal.

Disclaimer: I know it’s none of my business, I’m lucky I have nothing bigger to worry about and they might just (both) really feel the cold.

OP posts:

Hipster wannabes chatting loudly hands free on their headphones. This is especially annoying in an almost coffees shop, but they come and sit next to me.

wondering1101 · 29/10/2018 00:39

People eating anywhere near me on public transport. Especially on the tube.

OhTheRoses · 29/10/2018 00:44

Gum chewing. Overusing "like" well like you go down the road like and then like ypu turn right.............

OytheBumbler · 29/10/2018 00:51

I was stopped at a red light today and a fucking shitbag man spat right next to me then crossed the road.

I'm normally very well-mannered but I tutted loudly at him from inside my car. I wished I could do actual violence on him.

Powerless · 29/10/2018 01:43

People who don't read the OP properly....

OP ASKED FOR EXAMPLES THAT HAVE NO EFFECT ON YOU WHATSOEVER!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

GunpowderGelatine · 29/10/2018 03:42

People who loudly whinge about children on planes. I've just stepped off be where a 4yo boy (not mine) cried all the way clearly distressed and his poor parents were so on edge. The amount of passive aggressive turns and moans was ridiculous, yes it's annoying but he's 4!

thighofrelief · 29/10/2018 03:58

Blasphemy - I'm not in the least religious and i swear plenty. But blaspheming is just..........lazy swearing. Please say fuck instead.

Ragwort · 29/10/2018 04:00

People who don’t hold their cutlery properly when eating, it obviously does not effect me at all but I find it really, really off putting.

Agree with people who are surgically attached to their mobiles.

Anyone using the expression ‘are you all right there?’.

thighofrelief · 29/10/2018 04:00

People who say "gunnu" instead of going to or even gonna. Makes my teeth itch.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 29/10/2018 04:18

Ragwort - re. the cutlery thing, what about people from different cultures? I was raised in a different country than my husband and we currently live in a country that neither of us grew up in...what's the 'correct' way for us to hold our cutlery in our situation? Do I change to his way, does he change to mine, or do we both change to the way the native people hold it where we currently live??!!

Grandadwasthatyou · 29/10/2018 05:27

People who leave the clicky sound switched on when they're on their iPad so that each key pressed makes a clicking noise. It's so annoying.

Grandadwasthatyou · 29/10/2018 05:31

Oh and when you've waited in a queue in a shop ( Argos I'm talking to you) and they trot out the phrase "sorry for your wait there".
For me that's more annoying than the actual wait.

redexpat · 29/10/2018 05:39

Women who change their names on marriage. Even those who double barrel - unless he changes his name too.

DeadZed · 29/10/2018 05:41

People who use the word "Gawjus" should be shot at dawn.

Loopytiles · 29/10/2018 05:42

So you’re blaming the women for the patriarchal custom? Hmm

MorningsEleven · 29/10/2018 05:42

Talking on those earphones on phones so it looks like they're just talking out loud when they're on a call

There's a woman who catches the same bus to work who does this. I'm torn because she's no self awareness, she's very rude and shouts her entire conversation but I enjoy hearing her bitching loudly from the backseat of the bus at 8:30am.

I don't like men in the swimming pool, they're loud and splashy like overgrown toddlers.

Loopytiles · 29/10/2018 05:44

Hard to find examples that have no actual impact, other than being irritating. Eg spitting, noise, tutting in queues all have some actual impact on others.

My DM gets stressed when others in the family are not dressed warmly.

DuchessMinnie · 29/10/2018 05:45

Whistling. Eating crisps on the train. People who use myself instead of me- "can you look at this report and get back to myself".

People with bags on the seat on busy commuter trains- they know they will have to move them, why do they make you stand there asking?

Lots more. But whistling is the worst.

borntobequiet · 29/10/2018 05:46

TV presenters, both male and female, with long hair, WHO DON’T TIE IT BACK WHEN OUT OF DOORS EVEN IN A GALE. TIE YOUR HAIR BACK YOU SILLY PERSON!
Luckily I very rarely watch TV.

Minniemountain · 29/10/2018 06:01

People using incorrect grammar at work when talking to clients. They've all got degrees but the amount of "you was" I hear is frustrating.

A580Hojas · 29/10/2018 06:11

Adults cycling on pavements. Usually this isn't affecting me - I am just witnessing it but it gives me the rage, every time.

NationalShiteDay · 29/10/2018 06:20

Whistling. Can turn me into a murderous rage.

Anyone who takes more than 3 seconds to negotiate the local road toll booth. Either get a fast tag or HAVE THE CORRECT CHANGE! You know you're going through the toll, it's not a surprise, so don't start rummaging for that last 20p when it's your turn to pay!

My blood pressure has risen just writing that last one.

A580Hojas · 29/10/2018 06:22

Also, doesn't affect me in any way but I find people wearing tons of makeup really difficult to handle. I often want to laugh - enormous false eyelashes on for a trip to the corner shop to buy a packet of fans for eg. - perhaps a subconscious association between ridiculous amounts of make up and clowns? But on the whole I find it a bit repulsive/makes me uncomfortable. Don't get me started on lip fillers etc.

Rockandrolling · 29/10/2018 06:26

Powerless

The OP ALSO added "really gets on your nerves?"
Hence the responses she's had. That reminds me of one thing which grates on me..... Posters who come across as 'know it all's'!

I also hate to watch people putting money (notes) in their mouths when counting change/packing their shopping bag, then happily handing the note straight to a cashier.
That's disgusting, unhygienic and a really bad mannered thing to do!

ismellsnow · 29/10/2018 06:32

People who say brought instead of bought and Pacific instead of specific (Dame Darcey Bussell I'm talking to you). It gives me an inexplicable feeling of rage whenever I hear these.
