How not to be miserable at work

Get a new job obviously, but in the meantime...

I have been off on annual leave and am going back tomorrow. I have a serious case of the Sunday Blues. I go in to work sometimes like Eeyore, I look miserable, I say I’m miserable. I’m sick of myself.

Tips to fake it needed.

Red lipstick.
Favourite CD for the journey.
Breeze into the office and make a round a coffees whilst asking about everyone's weekend.

Think of all the positive things in your life. Bounce in with a smile and make a point of chatting to the nice people in your office. Have a giggle. Find the funny things

I have no idea as I'm the same I'm afraid, but you're not alone! I'm working my arse off but it's having no effect, which is depressing. I've also been given an extra duty which really stresses me out. I barely get a break and the people I work with are even more stressed than me so there's no escape!

Luckily though, I don't need to fake it as absolutely no-one pays attention to me anyway! Grin

I get very jealous about DH's job, where everyone is nice to each other, their boss gets in free food for lunch, they're having a halloween day, they can listen to music while they work, work from home if they need to. We don't even get communal teabags at work Sad

Following for tips!

Try and think positive, I work in a place where a few staff like to start a Monday with a good moan and it tends to put everyone in a negative mood before 9.30 ! So last Monday at the first moan (8.40 am the boss started saying his leg hurt) I said ‘ are you moaning already? Look at the time ! Surely you ‘re not ‘ he was that shocked he stopped straight away. Maybe try and be a bit more upbeat even if your not feeling it , it may well run off on your colleagues with any luck.

Rub not run !

A new mug, nice drinks or snacks? Sometimes tiny things can help...

Plan a nice outfit and what lipstick you're going to wear. Look good, feel good.

Like others say, be chatty and keep it light and positive.

I have depression and tend to feel dreadful but these simple changes can make or break a day

DarkDarkNight · 28/10/2018 22:25

Glad to know I’m not the only one. I really don’t want to go in moaning so I will try to be positive.

I find it so draining when other people are relentlessly negative, but I also know I can be that person.

What sort of job do you do?

I find something as simple as a tube of mints can brighten my day but I'm on a job where I'm on my feet and running around all shift. Might be different for an office job. Can you sneek headphones in and listen to music?

DarkDarkNight · 28/10/2018 22:48

Clinical support. Can be so so stressful or deathly quiet. We do get decent breaks thankfully. The temptation is not to eat my way through them (NHS staff can get through a serious amount of chocolates and biscuits in a matter of hours, or is that just my tearoom?).

Vet nurse here- reckon we can give NHS staff a run for theirmoney in the chocolate cake and biscuit department.
