Dean Heritage Centre night be preferable? Or Beechenhurst. Speech house is nice for a pub meal.

Puzzle wood is very atmospheric and beautiful. We got there before it opened and pretty much had the place to ourselves and it was lovely. By the time we left, it was getting busier.

Clearwell Caves are a good visit nearby too.

Loved it, well worth going

Puzzlewood is lovely but will be very muddy. It'll take an hour or two max. You'll keep seeing it on TV for evermore!

RicStar · 28/10/2018 18:11

It's nice but not very big I would not say it was a full day trip.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 28/10/2018 18:11

I prefer puzzlewood to the ones suggested by soo. Puzzlewood Café is a bit naff though.

I did Puzzlewood last autumn with two friends (me-late 30s, friend 1-late 40s, friend 2-mid 40s) and a daughter aged about 9.

Sure, the daughter did a Hallowe'en themed trail but us three adults got totally into it and the woods themselves were pretty cool. It's like a big maze and there are some interesting trees and hollows and things.

I suppose it depends if you like walking around outdoors looking at nature.

Thanks, all- and yes, we do like walking around outdoors and looking at nature! Grin

It won’t be a full day but a great morning if you enjoy walking. The cafe isn’t that good though - the one at Beechenhurst is nicer.

NoSquirrels · 29/10/2018 08:24

It’s lovy but it’s not a big day out - morning or afternoon (glorious if you get the late autumn sunlight we’ve had recently).

dangermouseisace · 29/10/2018 08:27

It is very pretty, and unique, but very small. It’s somewhere you potter around rather than go for a proper walk, so it depends what you are after. It’s certainly not a full day. So if you’re doing something else that day too it could be good.

Agree you’ll keep seeing it on TV- it was in Dr Who the other week!

didireallysaythat · 29/10/2018 08:28

Agreed it's not a whole day. If you like walks the sculpture trail is definitely worth it
