I've been thinking of doing this but have no idea where to start - local butcher, online? Any recommendations please?

Musclefood does not compare to a decent local butcher. Chalk and cheese. Buy local in bulk and freeze, don't order in vacuum packs that could come from anywhere.

THen eat less meat

Ah yes because I can also afford a wide and varied veggie diet. I get I'm an awful person how dare I be so poor that I can't afford to put the animals first. Hmm

I use Mettricks
www.mettricksbutchers.com/

I thought muscle foods was rank. Nowhere near the quality of my local butchers either.
Buy less meat and buy local.

Bolam’s. Not really helpful if you don’t live in the North East...

Talkinpeece not sure if your question was addressed to me, but Field and Flower promise traceable meat from UK farmers that is free range and grass fed, it's not necessarily organic. It's welfare standards that concern me more than anything.

Agreed
Field and Flower do appear to name their farms
many online places do not - hence my deep cynicism.

My sunday roast this week was a stew of shin of beef - all DH and I could eat for £4.50
real butchers sell the cheap cuts

WhoTFIsAlanBrazil · 29/10/2018 19:15

Same as @goodnessidontknow.

I tried Muscle Food but was a bit underwhelmed. Athleat is much better quality.

I prefer to use my local butcher but due to work patterns it can be weeks between visits, so I just get an Athleat delivery every other month or so to tide us over and freeze it.

It's all ready-packaged for freezing and very convenient.

The local butcher.

Mominatrix · 29/10/2018 19:19

I use my local butcher. They always throw in an added bonus for my dog and can get anything I want as long as I give them notice (foie gras, venison) and also will slice beef short rib LA style so I can make proper kalbi.

DeadCertain · 29/10/2018 20:53

Local butcher is a wholesale meat supplier too - they do big discount packs of meat (or as little as you need). Great value for money, friendly and will sell me boxes of chicken carcasses etc to feed to my dog too.
