Tell me what to treat myself to?

My granddad has given me a credit card to spend money on myself, it has £500 limit on it and I am allowed to max it out if I want to.

But I don't know what I want! I am not allowed to spend any of the money on my DD (aged 3) as I spend any spare money on her as it is.

So what do I want?

I like gadgets but already have amazon echo dots in living room and kitchen, I also like Sims 4 and have most of the expansion packs for that but don't get much time to play it as DD has SN so spend a lot of time sorting her out (I am an LP). I like cats (hence the username), wax melts and chocolate.

I also have a cat who I am allowed to spend money on too.

I don't want to spend a huge amount as it's a lot of money, but granddad says it needs to feel like a treat and a bit of luxury.

I'm enjoying daydreaming about what I'd spend it on!

I think actually I'd buy a gadget I really want but wouldn't feel I could justify spending a big chunk on normally eg a proper kenwood mixer with attachments or a dyson hairdryer

But being a man he might understand a good quality coat more

Weepingwillows12 · 28/10/2018 18:24

I would probably buy a year's flower Subscription as I love flowers brightening up the house but never buy them myself as they are a waste of money really. Or a night away somewhere completely non child friendly.

Headphones for swimming, what a brilliant idea! I often want to get lost in my own world when I'm swimming as I've dropped DD at Nursery and need a bit of me time, definitely putting that on my list!

You can buy waterproofed iPod shuffles for swimming . I have one and it's very good.

strawberrypenguin · 28/10/2018 18:37

Amazon prime subscription. That way you get the TV and kindle unlimited.

mumto2babyboys · 28/10/2018 18:50

If you can't drive

I'd do an intensive driving course. Your child is going to grow up being able to drive her around and take her on Days out alone etc will make it worthwhile.

If you can drive but just don't, put it towards saving up for a car of your own

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 28/10/2018 18:56

If you like chocolate, get a hotel chocolat velvetiser that makes the perfect hot chocolate. There is a starter set which comes with cups and chocolate sachets. It's a real luxury. I got mine on Thursday and the kids want it but it's mine all mine!

doodlejump1980 · 28/10/2018 18:58

Kitchenaid?

Coconutspongexo · 28/10/2018 19:02

Yeah I’d also get something sentimental, my grandad would always give me money and I’ve got little bits now that I bought with his money I couldn’t even think about parting with, makes me feel like he’s still here.

Coconutspongexo · 28/10/2018 19:03

Although I’m now heading to the hotel chocolat site...

CatLadyToddlerMother · 28/10/2018 19:03

I can drive but don't have my own car, I use my mums when necessary.

Weekend away?

mumto2babyboys · 28/10/2018 19:30

Just you know not every child gets into their first choice of primary school and most people end up needing two cars
so you could save up for a deposit on hp car or cheap runaround.

The novelty of stuff wears off too so think about like often does anyone drink hot chocolate. Do you drink it in summer?

most espresso machines just end up used once a day at most as it's a bit of a faff and cba to bother with them after a month or so

Swimming headphones are a good idea. I may have misread it but it sounds like you won't have this amount of money again to spend on yourself,

can't buy a decent designer bag for £500 unless it's already second hand but maybe a nice coat that will last you for years. Something that is classic and won't go out of style like the classic trench

WellTidy · 28/10/2018 19:31

What would be luxury to you? Something practical can can be a luxury if you don’t have one and really want one. Like a dishwasher or a tumble dryer.

Are you thinking something more frivolous than practical? Something for the garden? Like an arbour or table and chairs and a Parasol.

Something classic like a smart coat or boots or a bag?

Or what about a painting or piece of sculpture or glass?

Something inexpensive to go with it like a bottle of bubbly or a lovely box of chocolates for you both to share?

Sforsh49 · 28/10/2018 20:22

I'd buy a Kitchenaid but then I love baking and I've coveted them for years!

Bubblysqueak · 28/10/2018 20:26

My list would be-
New make up
New hand bag
New clothes
New shoes

Basically a whole new look.

It says you don't drive, could you do driving lessons if that interests you?

Bubblysqueak · 28/10/2018 20:28

Sorry just read the the whole thread.

At the moment I think I would decorate my bedroom, my ds has sen and my bedroom is my sanctuary, it could do with a spruce up.

PotteryGirl · 28/10/2018 20:30

I collect Art and Ceramics..at Christmas or Birthday I buy a piece (old or new) which I know I will always love and keep...some of my purchases are investment pieces which I will hand down to my children. (Then they can sell them..🤪)

CatLadyToddlerMother · 28/10/2018 20:32

I don't have a garden.

I should get into the primary school that I can see from my living room window, it's 0.25m away and the last 2 years admissions have been 1.1m away, and if I don't get in there there's another very good under-subscribed school less than a mile from home which I will get into as the admissions for that school have always been 3+ miles away plus DD has SN and I may get EHCP for her yet, she doesn't start school until Sept 19 so I have plenty of time as application haven't even opened in my area yet. And for wet days/bad weather my mum can get a lift to work with her boss who lives two streets from me, so she'd drop car with me and then get a lift from here pr she'd come drop DD at school herself and can leave work early enough to do the same in the afternoon. I'd prefer not to have my own car if I can help it as it's a) more of an impact on the enviroment and b) something else to worry about.

I love hot chocolate and do drink it in the summer! But I think I'll go with swim headphones and maybe a waterproof ipod.

I have a decent coat, it's the only decent thing ExH actually bought me! I do need new shoes though so will add that to the list.

A Garmin watch or something that you can measure your swimming laps with.

And an hour with a shit hot family lawyer recommended by Women's Aid.

RPC28 · 28/10/2018 20:49

Something you'll be able to keep. And cherish?

CatLadyToddlerMother · 28/10/2018 20:50

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit I have a SHL don't worry Wink

Please will you put a link up to what you buy, OP? I am planning to start swimming again and would love something like that.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 28/10/2018 20:57
