I know I’m tempting fate..but is anyone else ridiculously healthy?

I have realised that I have never or seldom had most of the common ailments . I don’t do anything really to look after myself and am a bit overweight. But I’ve never broken a bone, been in hospital, had a tooth out, only had flu once, only had food poisoning once, never been stung, never had a chest infection , neve had toothache, never had nits, don’t get headaches, never succumbed to Norovirus, don’t get funny tummy on holidays, never had a mosquito bite etc etc.........I’m going to get some really big and horrible now aren’t I?

No, but don't panic, you're dying just as slowly as the rest of us. It's just been more pleasant for you so far. Grin

I'm biologically quite strong (no major ailments, good cardiovascular system etc) but bike and climbing accidents have pretty much wrecked me from the knees down. Occasionally I eat something off and get a few rumbles, but apart from an horrific episode of campylobacter some years back, very seldom ill.

I’m the same OP... I’ve always said one day I’m just going to suddenly go... and people will do the “She wasn’t ill a day in her life!” thing

In my experience it’s always the ones who are forever ill with stuff that go on to live to 99 and the ones who never had a days illness who suddenly drop down dead way before their time.

I never had a single cold or stomach bug in my whole adult life. A couple of things as a child but nothing major. Couldn't catch an illness if I ran after it. Then one day I got what I thought was 'flu' and it never went away. That was 3+ years ago so I'm now officially chronically ill. I exercised and walked for miles and miles when well but realise now that I didn't fully understand what an amazing thing being in a healthy body is.

So my advice would be to really appreciate your good health and do all the things you want to do and as often as you can. Never take it for granted for even a second and everyday you wake up feeling good be very thankful.

Oh and dance. Loads. Smile

I am similar, a few bug bites, cuts bruises but I am am healthy and have never been to the hospital. The first time I went to the doctors was Because I was pregnant

Armchairanarchist · 27/10/2018 19:41

I could have written this until I needed emergency major surgery and ended up on life support in ICU for weeks...

CathKidneyston · 28/10/2018 07:42

Good point about enjoying my health. I could look after myself so much better. I wasn’t being smug by the way...more thinking how the hell have I managed it so far?!

I really agree with this ^

I never get sick with anything minor, so I am expecting to drop dead early of something suddenly when I am 50!
I have put it down to sleeping very well.
But I eat lightly and relatively healthily and was breastfed for ages so it could be a combination of these too.

Freshprincess · 28/10/2018 08:03

I’m in pretty good nick. I can pretty much remember every day off sick I’ve ever had.
I have suffered with migraines since I was a teen, but that’s a couple of times a year, so relatively ‘easy’ compared to others.

The first time I ever felt ill over a sustained period was when I was pregnant and I didn’t like it, I didn’t know how to ‘be ill’. I ended up in hospital on enforced bed rest. I used to think that people taking to their bed when I’ll were being a bit dramatic, I realise now I’d just never been that ill.

I’m suffering with peri-meno symptoms now, so no doubt my many years of good fortune will catch up with me when full on menopause hits.

I am the same, now 60 and incredibly fortunate with my health, I think it’s just luck as I don’t lead a particularly healthy lifestyle (I am overweight, drink too much & rarely exercise). I had the occasional back ache when I worked in an office but that was probably due to sitting all day. I now work on my feet (retail) & feel better for it. I’ve only once been in hospital for an EMCS from which I recovered incredibly quickly, never had problems with periods or menopause. My DM (now 85) also has good health so assume it is may be genetic? I do feel incredibly lucky though, and grateful.
