What happens, do they have to work an extra an hour, do they get paid extra?

I’m working an extra hour tonight 😱😭

originalusernamefail · 27/10/2018 17:46

Speaking for the NHS, yes they have to work an extra hour. No they don’t get paid.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 27/10/2018 17:46

We do in the NHS... And obviously get paid an hour less if we work during the spring clock change.

FaithInfinity · 27/10/2018 17:47

When we did our own time sheets, we’d put down the extra hour because you’ve worked it! I hated it when the clock went forward, it felt like a rushed shift!

Samcro · 27/10/2018 17:50

Ouch, not getting paid extra, just assumed you would.

That's interesting originalusernamefail I wonder if it's dependant on the trust.

POPholditdown · 27/10/2018 17:52

I didn’t realise that was tonight until my OH just reminded me 😩. I don’t get paid for it either.

SockQueen · 27/10/2018 17:54

I work in the NHS and am doing the night shift tonight. I don't get paid extra as I'm not on an hourly rate and apparently this is ok because "it will all even out over the years..."

whatstheplanphil · 27/10/2018 17:57

Where I work you don't get paid for the extra hour tonight, thankfully I'm on annual leave 🎉

Haberpop · 27/10/2018 18:00

Yup, NHS no pay for the extra hour. When I was on the ward the day shift would start half an hour early but now I am not we work it but don't get paid it.

AutumnGlitterBall · 27/10/2018 18:02

Police officer - nightshift starts at ten tonight instead of nine so they’re still only working ten hours to finish at seven. Years gone by, we claimed an hour’s ot and started at the usual time but not anymore.

Wingbing · 27/10/2018 18:02

NHS, we give an hours flexi or take it,either way, when the clocks change.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/10/2018 18:19

Those who don't get paid for the extra hour:

do you get paid the usual amount in the spring clock change, when you have worked one hour fewer ?

Fluffyears · 27/10/2018 18:21

My dad worked shifts and had tondon9 hours rather than eight but it evened our 6 months later if you were on nightshirt then.

DaisyDreaming · 27/10/2018 18:28

Nhs people what do you do when someone is on a strict medication schedule that can’t just be extended by an hour?

DeadBod · 27/10/2018 18:34

We get paid overtime. It's awful when the clock goes back, that extra hour is a killer when you're tired.
In Spring we get let off with working an hour less.

itswinetime · 27/10/2018 18:39

Yes I'm all the nhs trust I have been in you get nothing for the extra but no you don't loose anything in the shortest the idea being the same people work both and it's all fair. The reality is Unless you are on it enough to request the shortness night it never happens.

ems137 · 27/10/2018 18:42

We used to just work our 9 hour shift, starting at 10pm and finished 9 hours later. We then gained our "extra hour"

Walkingthroughawall · 27/10/2018 19:18

NHS doc - we do a 13 hr instead of 12 hr shift & get no extra pay. Am lucky to be off for it this year.

dementedma · 27/10/2018 19:20

DH working tonight - no extra pay

xyzandabc · 27/10/2018 19:22

I used to do shifts and yes, we added an extra hour to our time sheets and got paid for it. Civil service.

hollyhzd · 27/10/2018 19:22

I've worked in the NHS and out of it and never got it. Always got told I'd be put on the spring one to make up but never did. Not that it mattered, more pleased to get the Saturday night off, but thought it was taking the piss not to get paid for the extra hour.

And yeah messing about with medication schedules is a pita and makes the night even harder!

AamdC · 27/10/2018 19:22

When i worked in the NHS i think we got Time owing for the extra hour which we could nevetr take of course !

babycakes1010 · 27/10/2018 19:24

I'm glad I've seen this as I had forgotten it's tonight! Shock

youarenotkiddingme · 27/10/2018 19:29

Great thread.

I'm ashamed to admit I hadn't even thought about it Blush

But I'll take this opportunity to thank all those staff that work through the night to keep our country running and providing emergency services - they never get enough thanks Thanks
