That's just it. Was rushed to hospital for a suspected stroke due to how I was presenting, thankfully, a weekend of tests, MRI as well as CT scan showed I was in the clear. Discharged but left with rotational nystagmus. GP says it should go on its own and prescribed prochlorperazine to help the nausea.

1 week later, still the same, spoke to GP on Thursday, he again says it should clear. Im hacked off with it. It's driving me mad.

Anyone got any advice?

Hi,
Im a physiotherapist trained in vestibular rehab (dizzy rehab!).

Can you explain when you get your symptoms? For example rolling in bed? Can you tell if it is more one side than the other? This is important for the epley manoeuvre, it needs to be the correct side.

If you do the epley manoeuvre you need to be consistent and do it once a day whilst you have your symptoms. it can make you feel worse initially unfortunately, but you should gradually start to notice improvements. It sounds like you have had quite a severe reaction, so it may take a bit of time to get on top of it. Don't be tempted to keep doing it through the day though, just do once per day.

Do you know if any of your GPs have vestib training or of any local physio and you could try and get an appointment? It can be nice to have the reassurance with this kind of thing.

I find these exercises good. I have ongoing problems with my vestibular system caused by a virus.

Hi! Yeah, I can only get relief from it if I lay flat on my right side almost in the revovery position. I have the symptoms on both sides apparently, eyes visably flickering which ever way they turned my head.

First attempt was in resus/A&E
2nd and 3rd on the ward on seperate days, then last attempt I tried myself at home. The symptoms don't seem to subside unless I hang upside down, for all it's fitting for the time of year, living the life of a bat isn't an option. Grin

Yes there is a GP in my surgery who can do the Epley manoeuvre but my GP is reluctant to refer me. Saying it will ease of it's own accord.

Can you tell if one side is worse than the other?
If right side lying is 'comfortable' try doing the epley to the left. So start sitting up with your head looking to your left.
If it is both sides, doing the epley either side will help, but might make you feel better if you try to treat the worse side.

The GP is right and this can sort itself out, but there are things that can be done to sort it out quicker. So I guess it depends how debilitated you are by it, are you off work, struggling with any responsibilities etc etc, if yes I would try and push to get referred.

Do try to move around as normally as you can, as even just normal movement can help with this.
