How old were your children when you went to bed before them?

My teens want to stay up far later than I do, it's so tempting to leave them to it!

Only recently but age 13 here

TigerDroveAgain · 26/10/2018 20:59

I think DS was about 14/15. I just want to make sure all the lights aren’t left on, door open etc. But frankly if I want to sleep, I sleep!

Chilver · 26/10/2018 21:04

DD was 5yo... I was feeling really rough, Dh away with work and so she said she'd put me to bed Grin and go to bed herself. I crawled in and she put me to bed exactly as I put her to bed, with all the cuddles, so much love and sympathy for being ill. Just as I was dropping off, she jumped up and said 'right, now its my turn mummy, come tuck me in'!
So cute, but think it will be a while before i get to go to bed first!!!

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/10/2018 21:05

DH is already asleep but DS (12) is still up.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/10/2018 21:06

Around 13.

HarrietSchulenberg · 26/10/2018 21:07

My eldest is 17 and I've only recently started going to bed before him.

BearSoFair · 26/10/2018 21:17

13/14

purpleface · 26/10/2018 21:18

15 in school holidays/weekends only.

WickedGoodDoge · 26/10/2018 21:26

Mine are 13 & 16 and at the weekends I pretty much say, “Don’t stay up all night” as I stumble into my bed at 10:00. Grin

I do wake them at 10:30AM so they know better than to stay up all night!

Undercoverbanana · 26/10/2018 21:31

Shift working so it’s always been a juggling act.

flatpack1 · 26/10/2018 21:44

Same here 13/14

greensnail · 26/10/2018 21:54

Dd age 9 is a real night owl. I often leave her to it if she doesnt need to be up early the next day, but i make sure she is in her room and ready for bed before i go to bed myself. On school nights she generally goes the same time as me.

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 26/10/2018 21:55

13 I suppose. His desire to stay up late seems to have coincided neatly with my desire to go to bed early- it's like a sort of Darwinian evolution in real time Grin

Rowgtfc72 · 26/10/2018 21:56

I get up at 4am so in bed for 9pm. Dh works opposite shifts so it's my 11 yr old dd who tucks me in Grin

Ragwort · 26/10/2018 21:57

13/14 I think, much more frequent now as DS is 17, he’s out now, DH already gone to bed & I am haeding for a bath. Worse thing is that he is not exactly quiet when he comes in & usually wakes us up.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 26/10/2018 22:01

Ds1 is 12 and dd 15 and they sometimes stay up after me. They don’t stay up too late though so it’s not a problem. I’m not sure what I’m going to do when ds2 is that age. He’s always been a late sleeper since newborn he’d still stay up all night given the chance I’m going to have to be packing him off to bed before I go when he’s the same age I think.

AnnaNimmity · 26/10/2018 22:05

13 I'd say. It's just recently happened.

Upsy1981 · 26/10/2018 22:36

I have been known to go to bed and leave DD (11) and DH up if they are watching something. They are night owls. I am not. If DH is away, DD and I will come to bed at the same time and I will fall asleep before she does. Not quite got to the point of leaving her downstairs yet when I come up and I don't think she'd want to but it won't be long as I just can't stay awake.

TwigTheWonderKid · 26/10/2018 22:58

13 seems to be the age for it. Glad I read this thread as I've been feeling a like a rubbish parent for abandoning DS. My parents were such night owls I don't think I ever stayed up later than them!

TowerRingInferno · 26/10/2018 23:07

It happens now with the 12yo in the school holidays.

ChilliHobnobs · 27/10/2018 07:48

13/14 does seem to be the age then - though I think I won't be doing it on school nights.

I'm tired long before my 7 year old and bedtime is usually a battle
