Small lump in armpit - anything to worry about?

GhoulishGremlins · 26/10/2018 11:53

Found it in the shower - can't feel it just touching the armpit but applying pressure (like when soaping) reveals a hard pea sized ish lump.. there's no discoloration.

Should I try and get a GP appointment for next week or leave it?

Get it checked asap. Better safe than sorry. Some lymph nodes are in your armpit. Equally it could be a blocked sweat gland but please get it checked out.

GhoulishGremlins · 26/10/2018 12:05

Okay great, will go get an appointment now, thankyou.

Sounds as though it is nothing serious and you are doing the right thing to go to GP. I had one just the same, it was there for ages (sweat gland/hair follicle or the like), it annoyed me so I 'fiddled' with it a couple of times in the shower. It became infected and turned into an abscess so I spent a week on antibiotics, hot compresses, antispetic cream and eventually it burst all over the bedclothes!

So you are doing the right thing.

Been googling and have convinced myself it's non-hodgkins lymphoma Haloween Sad

Kick up the arse please!

I'm worried as I'm on immunosuppressants which can cause it...

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2018 22:16

I only started suffering from those little pea sized lumps about 2 years ago.

I get them if I'm run down. Sometimes they can be really painful and other times not at all.

GhoulishGremlins · 27/10/2018 22:18

And they're perfectly normal?

Thanks, that's what I needed to hear! Stupid late night googling Grin

gothefcktosleep · 27/10/2018 22:18

If you’re coming down with something it would be very normal for your lymph nodes to kick into action and try and help fight the virus.

You have them in your armpits, back of the head/neck and your groin

Turn off google and try not to worry about it for now, see what the doc says.

acatcalledron · 27/10/2018 22:19

Could it be an ingrowing hair from shaving?

GhoulishGremlins · 27/10/2018 22:19

Will have to wait til Monday morning!

Why do these things always get noticed Fridays...

Thanks guys Smile

acat I don't shave!

Please, please don’t google.
I’m a nurse and used to work in an area where patients had surgery and would have to wait for results a week later. Honestly, you will just work yourself up and it does you no good.
See your GP, see what they say. It is more likely to be nothing.
Good luck.
(One of my sons is on immunosuppressants which can cause lymphoma, so I get your concern. Flowers)

Had an ingrown hair under my arm, I squeezed it got infection then had an emergency late night operation - took ages to heal due to area it was in - no air was getting to the wound. Go to your doc’s appt amd DO NOT squeeze the lump.

Fingers crossed all will be well.

Thankyou Eleanor Flowers

I used to get these all the time. Keep the area clean. Once, one of them developed into a nasty infection which needed draining under GA. but usually they go away by themselves. Sometimes I've had ABs for them.
But nothing particularly ominous. Try not to worry.

TheDayMyButtWentPsycho · 27/10/2018 22:29

Does it hurt?

I often get painful glands come up in my armpit. They are pea size, hard and painful.

They go away by themselves. But absolutely go and see your GP.

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2018 22:30

Sorry, yes they're perfectly normal when your body's trying to fight illness.

As soon as I feel one coming up, I start taking vitimins and eating better.

ItWentInMyEye · 27/10/2018 23:08

I had one in the back of my neck and in my right groin last year, convinced myself it was something horrendous but they were the result of a chest infection and UTI! Went down again after a month or so.

EnidButton · 28/10/2018 02:00

I get one of those under one of my armpits and have done since I was about 13.
I remember feeling worried enough to ask my DM about it the first time I felt it. It's a lymph node and swells up a bit when it fights infection and generally does what it's meant to do. Doesn't mean you have anything serious, mine swells up and can be felt, if I'm having a particularly crampy period for example. There are a few under there quietly working away, I think you've just noticed one that's all.

Hope the doc can put your mind at rest. Good idea just to check as you're on meds. Don't google. Every time you have the urge to look it up, do something to distract yourself. Dr Google is an arse when it comes to things like this.

You'll have come across this pic when googling but just in case, look, we have loads of them busy doing their thing. Occasionally they'll get carried away and become noticeable

One appeared on the other side today!

Doc says they're probably just blocked ducts and should go away on their own.

Thankyou for the reassurance everyone Halloween Smile
