Does nursery really help build up children's immune systems?

Or is that just said to make parents feel better about their DC getting ill all the time?
In the last four weeks DD has had a stomach bug, hand foot and mouth and has now just started with at least a cough and a cold. We all got the stomach bug and my husband got the hand foot and mouth (awful illness).

Have MNs found it really does help their immune system like you often get told?
Thanks

I don't think it makes much difference. Dd1 only went to preschool a couple of mornings a week.
She had chicken pox aged three. Caught scarlet fever off dd2 when she was 6. Pneumonia aged 8, and hasn't missed school since and she's in her final year of secondary.
Dd2 and D's were exposed to lots more illness as babies and are much less inclined to keep going and much more inclined to be I'll.

I think they just get them out of the way at nursery rather than at school.
DS1 seemed to have a constantly running nose at nursery but he's in the final year of primary now and he's had 1 day off school for illness since he started.
It's mainly luck but the endless snotty noses seem to tail off so it's good to remember it doesn't last forever.

DS started nursery at 2.5. He was constantly ill the first few months but it eased up.

Mine didn't go to nursery until preschool at 3. Both rarely ill either then or after starting. Friends' kids of similar ages who did go used to catch all sorts of things and now seem to to have more days off school too. This might just be coincidental of course though.

Ds 1 went to three different nursery’s/preschools from when he was one until he started school. He adveraged in reception a day off every week when split down due to catching bugs. My dd1 misses maximum of 1 day a year and She didn’t start preschool till she was 3.
