Understanding my payslip?

I'm a bi Blush to be asking this but...

I'm filling out a form that is asking me about my pay and specifically
"How much is deducted as pension contributions?"

Under Employer Contribution, there is nothing under Pension, only National Insurance - is it this amount?

No. Is it a fairly new job? All employers now have to offer to auto-enrol you in a pension scheme within 3 months of you starting work for them. You pay in a % of your wages and they have to pay into it as well.

You can opt out if you want, but they have to give you full details of the scheme so you can decide.

If you were contributing to a pension it would show on your payslip as a pension deduction.

If you've been there for longer than 3 months and they've not auto-enrolled you they can be reported to the Pensions Regulator as they're breaking the law.

Employer contributions aren't a deduction, they are an added benefit. You are looking for the employee contribution... Assuming you make any? Which as per PP you are auto enrolled unless you opt out

I did opt out of the pensions scheme. But this doesn't affect the state pension that I am entitled to, does it?

I am filling in an online form and it doesn't let me skip the question "How much is deducted as pension contributions?"

I know I'm not understand something really obvious here, please bear with me!

The answer is zero because you opted out

NowyouareunderMYspell · 25/10/2018 23:21

If you've opted out of auto enrolment and don't contribute to a private pension then the answer is £0.00

State pension isn't anything to do with this

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/10/2018 23:21

Just put a zero if it won’t let you leave it blank.

FanSpamTastic · 25/10/2018 23:22

If you have opted out then your deductions are 0.

NICs is something else.

Question is - why have you opted out? You will also be missing out on the employer contribution?

hmmwhatatodo · 25/10/2018 23:23

And I’d think twice about opting out of a pension scheme ...

cakedup · 25/10/2018 23:28

Oh okay, thanks everyone. I was a bit confused by not being able to answer the question but will just put zeros.

The reason I have opted out is because for one, I struggle to make ends meet as it is. I can't spare any of my salary towards an extra pension.

The other reason is because no-one else in my team did at work! The company that manages this is a huge corporate company. It's been in the news recently about some money issues and I think people just don't trust them.
