Africa honeymoon 6 weeks pregnant, need advice

Hi, I would like some advice
We just found out that we are 6 weeks pregnant which is great, however we are due to go on our honeymoon to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botwana in 2 weeks time.
I went and got medical advice over malaria tablets as it seems to be a grey area in the first trimester as there is limited studies showing if it causes defects. I was told by one doctor to take Malarone as its a shorter course.
We have looked into cancelling but would loose all the money we saved so long for it. I know its only money and the baby is more important but I just wanted to know if anyone had had experience of taking Malarone in the first trimester.
Surely Mums to be who move over the these areas must take protect against malaria.

It's amazing that you think insurance fraud is "a little bit naughty".

Essentially you're asking others to pay for your situation by way of their premiums.

We cancelled it and have booked up a safer option. We figured its only money we lost, Africa will still be there for us to visit another time. We know the risks were so small but we would blame and question ourselves if there was a problem with the baby. Think i would have totally paranoid about the mozzies too. Thank u all for your advice. Such a shame but as you say Africa isn't going anywhere and you want to relax on holiday. I'm desperate to take my DC to see all the places I grew up but am adamant I'm not spending all that money til they damn well remember it so waiting for youngest to get to 6 ish.
