I fucking hate Facebook

I don't want an all-singing all-dancing facebook account. I only created one to be able to read the posts of people who work in the same field as me. It never takes long before I get fecking locked out because facebook insists I give a phone number before letting me log in. I don't want to give a phone number. I don't want to put in any personal details. It now appears I can't navigate past this security point. So I remain locked out. I fucking hate it. Why can't I just browse without having to surrender my personal information?

Thanks for your help guys. I give up for now because I refuse to put anything personal in. I need a break from this.

I do think that Facebook has had a fiddle at the back end recently. It seems to be trying to force me to use the app when I prefer the browser, just like it forced people to use the app for messenger.

Don't know what the answer is OP. You might have to put a phone number in and find it doesn't accept it anyway because there's a glitch at their end.Angry

I look at Facebook just to see what's going on in my area and to see photos posted by family and friends. That's it. Touch wood it hasn't locked me out but it sometimes asks me to put a photo on as it 'will help your friends to recognise you'. My true friends know what I look like so I ignore it and shall continue to do so.

You don't have to give a phone number to log in on Facebook. I have been using FB for years.
I love FB. Depends who you friend and what you want to do.

DontFuckingSayIt · 25/10/2018 10:41

Instead of just typing in Facebook and pressing enter (which will take you to a previously visited page - in this case the one requesting your phone number), have you tried typing in "www.facebook.com" which will take you to the home page if you're logged in?

ShirleyPhallus · 25/10/2018 10:43

Though you put a fake no. in from your phone, with modern data saving methods, I suspect FB would have recorded the number of the device you connected from, regardless of what number you put in.

How is that possible? IP address, yes. Phone number, no.

TheChampagneGalop · 25/10/2018 11:29

Should we be worried about giving FB our phone numbers? What would they do with the info?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 25/10/2018 11:39

Its used for log in and search purposes, If I get a missed call and I dont know who it was I will put it in the search bar of FB to find out.

EvaHarknessRose · 25/10/2018 11:45

I have never given Facebook my phone number but it knows what it is (it occasionally asks me to 'confirm' it and puts it on the screen). It has either got it from another app, like Instagram, or from the contacts list of one of my friends.

PrincessScarlett · 25/10/2018 11:48

I've never had to give Facebook my phone number either. Never had a problem logging on.

SassitudeandSparkle · 25/10/2018 11:49

Surely you are only getting that message because your email address (which is the normal login) isn't working - you said yourself that you email address isn't working. I've never given my phone number to FB.

inghamsitaly · 26/10/2018 07:31

I don't understand the paranoia? FB have had my phone number for a decade ...I can't see what they have done with it or would tbh

GreenTulips · 26/10/2018 07:35

Do they need a phone number for messenger to work?

Littlechocola · 26/10/2018 07:36

I don’t think I had a mobile when I opened a Facebook account so wouldn’t have been able to give one.

PeonyBlooms · 26/10/2018 13:29

I think this is a new development. I had an account just for following a few pages that I enjoy. I don't have friends or personal information or anything on there and they kept locking me out and claiming security has been breached insisting on a phone number - something that's never happened before. I've just deactivated now because it isn't worth the hassle.

Redglitter · 26/10/2018 13:36

I've got a secondary account on FB it was set up via the app & I didn't need a phone number Might he worth installing the app just to register then delete it. Or try the mobile page via Chrome on your phone
