I nearly dropped my baby :(

I feel awful. I know people will be along to say that accidents happen and their baby rolled off the bed and was absolutely fine, but this is different... my own stupidity and clumsiness could have meant a fall from height onto his head - probably killing him. I feel so upset Sad

I was picking 9mo DS up from nursery. I was holding him while trying to pick up the pushchair, which is in this rack thing so I have to lift it up and over the bar which is about waist height - one handed! He kind of toppled over my shoulder and was dangling headfirst behind me, I only had him by his foot Sad I shouted out and people ran to help me. Otherwise he probably would have fallen onto his head.

I can’t believe how awful a mum I am Sad

TeaForTiger Shock that sounds terrifying! Thank God your DH had such quick reactions.

Oh bless you! We've all been there. I've got hysterical over less so don't worry about overreacting. We live and learn.

I once stupidly sat my toddler on a bar stool in Homebase and we had fun spinning round. It then toppled over and she smacked her head on the floor.
I felt awful. What a stupid twattish thing to do! But I wasn't thinking she would topple over and fall, I was thinking wow this will be fun.
Sadly, giving birth doesn't give up perfect foresight or hindsight. Mistakes give us experience, knowledge and mortification.

Glad your feeling better today. Honestly I think we have all been there. I tripped up and dropped my baby on to the laminate floor at about 6 months old. I took her to a&e I was absolutely distraught. I was in a much worse state than she was! She was absolutely fine.

Dont beat yourself up and dont catastrophise. These things happen, sounds like you going to have your hands full with 2 close in age, so try and relax more (easier said than done, I know - I am less relaxed as I get older!)

I once left DS in his pram at the top of drive whilst I came in. Then decided to bring him in via garage, opening electronic door, but pram was too close and it knocked it over. Fortunately the car was on drive and pram only toppled a little then was stopped by car, however I remember feeling like you are now, what if, what could have happened.

He also wandered out of house once, was about 2.5, we were preparing to go out and me, DH and DB (who was visiting) all thought someone else was watching him. We realised within seconds and he didn't get far on our quiet estate but that was another heart stopping moment.

DS is now almost 21, 6 foot plus, a wonderful young man with no lasting effects or memories of either incident!

ShimmeringIce I’m glad this was a “nearly” incident! Otherwise he would probably be severely injured if not worse. Sorry that’s boring for you.

I think you’ve misunderstood what @ShimmeringIce mean by this comment. It just means that it didn’t happen, so don’t beat yourself up. Not that it was actually a boring story...

ClumsyUselessMum · 25/10/2018 14:09

CatAndMice possibly, I was feeling a little sensitive!

Thanks Cat, yes it was meant to be helpful! It’s what I tell myself when I’m getting overly upset about something

I am sure most mums can recall a horrible story, be me grateful that no harm came and learn from it.....

In my case I never carried my 3 year old down the stairs after I lost my footing and fell forward ..... It was awful but we all survived Flowers
