I have just been offered an interview for next round of a sponsored PhD. It would be over 4 years and part funded through an organisation where it would be predominantly based (local to me). I have just finished a masters which I did part time over two years.
I have 4 DC. Two will be at secondary when it starts. The other two will be Yr2 and Yr5.
I have no idea what the expectations are but if I got it I am hoping to be able to be on-site through school like hours 8.30 until 3.30 and then catch up hours in evenings once the DC are in bed. I am generally good at this.
This is a huge opportunity for me. Things like this don't come along locally to us very often (v niche field). I really, really want to get it but I am also a bit scared about the massive implications on all our lives.
Can I do this? Am I setting myself up to fail?

You can do it!

You absolutley can make this work, OP! It won't be easy but you've said yourself what a huge oppurtunity it is for you. Grab it with both hands!

Yes, that sounds doable!

I think the fact that you really really want to do it will get you through. No doubt there will be hard times where you all eat takeaway and nothing gets down in the house but it will end. Take the opportunity if you can.

Go for it! If you really want it, you'll make it work!

I know two women who took a year out of their PhD to have a child, then returned to successfully finish. And a third who juggled two primary level DC (with an unsupportive DH) who also landed a huge grant award and stayed on afterwards as a postdoc.
PhDs can be hugely flexible! If you’re concerned ask about doing it part time, but it can be done Halloween Smile Good luck! Brew

Thanks for the positivity. Will just keep repeating "I can do this" to myself. Obviously the small hurdle of getting it first!
