Hey

My daughter is 5 and is so fussy with food. She has runny poo constantly so doctors want her to eat more veg, easier said than done!!

She will eat cucumber, carrots, and most fruit. That's it for her fruit and veg intake.

She won't eat pasta so hidden veg sauces are no-go. She also won't touch mashed potato.

Help me please with some ideas!!

I make a curried sweet potato soup and use it as curry sauce - DC say it's just like one from a jar (which I think they mean as a compliment!)

Will she eat stews? You can chop veggies small and cook 2ith the onions.

Bolognaise sauce? Easy to add loads of veggies.

What about soup? Mine go through phases but at times really enjoy dunking bread on soup. Usually butternut. But I have convinced them to eat spinach and pea too!!

Does she like dips? Veggie dips can be nice. Or hoummous with veg crudites (doesn't work for mine who hate dips..But I am always pleased to see how other children enjoy them).

Sweetcorn?

One of the reasons so many people don't like veg is because we tend to mostly boil them and serve them plain.

Garlic butter makes most things edible for my fussy DS2, as does cooking them in batter. DS1 will eat anything if it has enough cheese/cheese sauce on it. DH always thought he hated mushrooms until he tasted them cooked in butter

I do a mince or Bolognese with carrot, onion, celery, courgettes and peppers all cut very small and sweated down and then disguised with either gravy or tomato sauce. I also tend to add a tin of baked beans to the mixture. It could be made into shepherd's pie, lasagne or eaten with rice or potatoes.

Cauliflower cheese

Soup. DS is really good with veg, always has been, but ever since he was weaned, he’s had “tomato” soup made with: onion, carrots, potatoes, red pepper, tinned tomatoes and red lentils.

Once it’s blended, it just looks like red soup! DS still loves it 15 years later...

I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but is she eating too much fruit rather than not enough veg? Fruit can really set the runs off.

One way to get veg into my ds is fajitas - I put slices of chicken or fish goujons on the table with lots of different veg and wraps and then try not to fret when he only eats the peppers Giving him a bit of control seems to help a lot.

Does she eat rice? Because you could make a pasta sauce but serve it with rice, as if it were a curry sauce...

Pesto pasta with blended broccli

I make hidden veg sauce that i freeze and use for lasagne, pasta bakes etc..
Fry Onion garlic celery, then put in garlic, carrots, peppers, courgettes anything really cook for abit then i add two tins of chopped tomatoes and i fill up one of the tins with hot water and a stock cube i prefer chicken stock to veg, add that cook till veg is soft and add oregano, thyme and basil, and blitz add water if needed for the consistency you need.

Or roasted veg soup: in a roasting dish add any veg you want i tend to put in carrots, sweet red peppers, courgettes, sweet potato, butternut squash, cheery tomatoes, garlic and drizzle with olive oil sprinkle oregano, thyme and basil toss so it's all coated, roast in the oven for about 20min then give the roasting tin a shake and drizzle with honey put back in for another 5min. Put all of it into a pot add stock and blitz to consistency you want.

my 3 year old is so fussy, but one thing that never fails is sweet potatoe and carrot soup we have a soup maker it makes it so easy without a single lump x

fizzytonicplease · 23/10/2018 19:43

Sorry didnt read she doesnt like pasta, the hidden veg sauce can be put over chicken and baked with cheese melted on top.

Would she eat cheesy muffin omelettes? I put spinach, sweetcorn, mushrooms, peppers in mine

NoNoCharlieRascal · 23/10/2018 19:51

Meatballs or burgers with grated veg in.

Quiche with blended veg.

Cornish pasty, grated veg.

Savoury muffins.

Pancakes and fritters

Aviana · 23/10/2018 19:51

Meat stews lend themselves to this, or did for my DC in this phase.
Chop the veg into chunks, small enough that they can be picked out with a bit of work. Cook your stew. Scoop out half of the veg and liquid. Purée it. Pour back in as the "sauce". Watch your child congratulate themselves on picking out every piece of veg whilst licking the sauce off the plate Grin
