Ford KA or Ford Fiesta?

MsMiaWallace · 22/10/2018 19:04

Currently have a fiat 500 & looking to buy a new car soon.
I'm interested in the KA's or Fiesta.

Which ones better? I appreciate one is bigger than other.
Any owners on here?

I had a fiesta and loved it, feels more stable than friends Ka, but it depends what you want it to do tbh

fairiedemon · 22/10/2018 19:23

I would also say it depends on what driving you do and what the parking situation near you is. I had a ka when I lived in central London and could squeeze into tiny spaces. The fiesta can also fit into small spaces but you get soooo much more room. I can get DC and the DDog in the car with ease. I have the 2016 1.0l eco tech model (no road tax) and it does 70/80mph with ease. If you plan to transport more than just one passenger with any kind of regularity then I would go for the fiesta. The fiesta can also cope with medium sized Ikea furniture with the seats folded down if you are ever going to need to do anything like that. Grin

I have one of the middle model Ford Ka (14 plate) it's been the most reliable car I've had and its actually quite a decent size x

It would just be for general
Use, work runs, shopping etc not mega miles. I've got x2 small kids.
We've also got a quashqai so a bigger car.

Fiesta, no question. Unless you are getting one of the new ka's that look like mini fiesta's? Old style ka's are fugly and unsafe tin cans.

TheFifthKey · 22/10/2018 20:58

Fiestas are actually pretty roomy inside, the KA isn’t really, I wouldn’t like to be using the back seat of it regularly. I envy my friend parking in really small gaps with hers though!

Clinicalwaste · 22/10/2018 21:02

KA is super reliable, roomy boot and ok up front but the back seat is tiny. 3 doors is a total pita with 2 kids. Economical but has the Functionality and the performance of a hairdryer. Fiesta is the best in class and so well rated, there is a reason why it continues to do well.

QuestionTime2018 · 22/10/2018 21:02

Fiesta all the way.

MsMiaWallace · 22/10/2018 21:20

Lol not the old KA! New shape.

BubbleySoup · 22/10/2018 21:34

With kids, definitely a fiesta.

FunSponges · 22/10/2018 22:16

Neither. Small Fords are rust buckets that cost a fortune in welding until you have to scrap them for naff all because it's not worth the cost to keep getting the sodding things welded .

Go for a Honda Jazz. Really roomy and a great little run around. Honda's are really reliable too.

Flippidyflap · 22/10/2018 22:35

I have a Ka + and love it. I think it’s the same size as the last model of the fiesta, just a slightly different body shape. I had a 2010 Ka before this one and there’s a big difference in size and performance. It has 5 doors and a decent boot too.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 22/10/2018 23:02

Disagree with Funsponges. Our last car, a Ford Fiesta, was over 20 years old when we finally said goodbye to it. The only rust was a tiny bit above the wheel arch. We only let it go when we did because we had the opportunity of a new one and we were unable to sell the old one as no-one wanted a car of that age, despite the fact it had a full service history and was extremely reliable. I think we had about three AA callouts on ii during the time we had it. No major bills other than an annual service when we had the MOT. Brilliant car.

I’ve got a Fiesta Zetec 07 plate, I’ve had this from new & done 74,000 miles absolutely No Rust. Will replace with another Fiesta.

partystress · 22/10/2018 23:21

Just traded in my Fiesta for... another Fiesta. Put 55,000 miles on the clock in 2 and a half years and only one part went wrong - suspension arm knackered by potholes. Paintwork still looks good as new on a 63 plate.

BikeRunSki · 22/10/2018 23:26

Fiesta. The kids won’t be small forever.

LucilleBluth · 23/10/2018 02:07

I have a new Fiesta (had it since April) I can honestly say that it is an amazing car. I have driven everything over the years from a Kia to a Mercedes. My Fiesta is luxurious and reliable, I drive three DCs around in it daily, it's not our main family car but it could be.

MsMiaWallace · 23/10/2018 07:40

So it would seem deffo Fiesta!

Satsumaeater · 23/10/2018 08:41

I have a subscription to Which? magazine and a few months ago it had a "what car" type supplement. The Fiesta came out really well.

The Honda Jazz is a great car but suffers from a granny image and people will try to overtake you in stupid places and pull out in front of you because they assume you will drive slowly even if you don't. For that reason I wouldn't recommend, although they are very reliable cars.

I can beat that lol, I had an '07 fiesta, its done 220k miles and the clutch has just gone. No other probs. I'd get it fixed and keep it but with that mileage, it's not worth it. Wanting another fiesta instead now.

That’s fantastic. Apart from a yearly service, I’ve only had 2 bulbs changed, 4 new tyres, & a cam belt whatever that is. My mechanic says I’d be mad to change it.

PurpleDaisies · 23/10/2018 21:04

Ecoboost fiesta. Cheap to run but goes like stink!

FunSponges · 23/10/2018 22:48

Well we had to scrap our perfectly running Fiesta due to £700 worth of welding that needed doing but it was an old car, shame though as was a really good runner and recently scrapped a 2007 Ka due to over £800 worth of welding, again a really good runner. Trusted garage that we've been going to for years and my very old car usually passes straight through so definitely not the garage trying it on. Mechanic friend says Ka's especially are very rust prone.

MsMiaWallace · 24/10/2018 15:04

Another option a Volkswagen polo?

@Eliza9917
@goingtotown

Our old fiesta was over 20 years old and in all honesty, we were very sad to see it go. I'd had AA callouts for a flat battery when I stupidly left the inside light on all day, a faulty battery which they replaced at a reasonable cost and once because of an overwhelming burning from the engine - turned out to be a plastic bag that had got caught up around the exhaust and had melted on to it. Apart from that, the only expense was the annual service and MOT (always passed first time) and an occasional exhaust. As I said, the tiniest amount of rust over the wheel arch, which to be honest, I think allowable after 20 years.
Can't say I've ever had issues with Ford cars and rust - my late step dad drove Ford cars all his life as have all Dh family (many of them work for Ford so get discounts).
