Calling Scottish MNers- what's the phrase?

My mum would have used it if something was particularly disgusting/ smelly, something like it could have walked on its own?

(She passed away a few years ago so I can't ask her myself).

It's taken me right back to childhood, it's on the edge of my brain but it's not there!

We would say eg ‘his socks could’ve could’ve got up and walked there themselves’

I remember this, my Nana & Mam used to say it too

Those I grew up in the N.E. It would be used for anything so grim that it was mouldy, maggotty, or generally crusty with muck. Like "ugh, thats so rank, it could get up & walk on its own"
