Do hives on child face warrant a&e?

Posting for traffic, dd (11) has just come downstairs and she has angry hives on her face, no idea what’s caused it (she’s had hives before from penicillin, but on her body)
I’ve given her antihistamines, so hoping to wait and see if that works, but she’s just said her throat is hurting too so I’m wondering if I need to take her up to be seen, or nhs24?
Thanks.

Hives on they own might not require a&e, but hives and a sore/swollen throat should require some medical advice. Call and let them guide you.

For months DS2 would have his shoulders and back covered in hives after sunset, and then it mysteriously stopped and we still don't know what caused it.

Did she spent time at a friend's house? DS developed a cat allergy more or less around that time out of the blue. Shortly after he also developed asthma, which was quite scary the first night.

If you go to a&e, hives will probably be reduced by the time you are seen.
You might want to call GP to have a plan if it happens again and throat is worse.

For DD hives and throat hurting means she ate peanuts which means soon there will be vomiting then hives everywhere then an epipen. So for us yes it would be A&E.

For me it has always calmed down with Benadryl (either a reaction to fruit or a systemic reaction to allergy shots).

It's hard to say - it also depends how far you are from A&E too. If far away and she's getting worse I'd probably go.

How is she?

Thanks everyone!
111 sent us straight up to the hospital, but luckily the antihistamines had started to work and the hives were getting better by the time we got there.
Her tongue was ever so slightly swollen but her throat wasn’t and only a tiny wheeze, they’ve given her steroids and to go back if anything worsens but thankfully she’s ok! Super impressed at how quickly we were seen too.
