What is your #1 cleaning tip?

My house has turned into a bit of a state recently, between 2yo twins and both of us working full time I just feel like any time I do have spare I'm exhausted and want to sleep/ am looking after the kids/ cooking..etc.

I need to do a big deep clean and clear out and also just need to be better at keeping on top of it going forward so I'm not in the same situation every few weeks!!

Any tips for either the deep clean/clear out or for just daily/weekly cleaning?

Lady near me has 4 children and her house is immaculate. She is very organised (like Tesco delivery at 8am).

As children grow up they have less (but more expensive) stuff! and they like to hide in their rooms - only coming out for food. So no evidence of children to be found.

I have a Dyson stick in the airing cupboard upstairs as all the carpets are upstairs. I'll dust around with DHs socks which have been left on the sofa, and puff up the cushions to make it look better.

Have a friend you can tidy and clean in front of. Have them over for a cuppa once a week and clean the kitchen while they're around. Repay the favour by going to theirs while they clean. Works particularly well if you both have children and they'll play with each other. Makes the whole thing a lot more enjoyable.

I am no domestic goddess but I think having visitors or a cleaner is a good incentive to tidy up.
Decluttering and little and often also help.
Can I ask those who recommended a new stick vacuum which model they recommend? Am hoping this might make cleaning floors easier...

Hire a cleaner

I usually stick to daily cleaning and then do one big clean once a week.

Daily cleaning / tidying usually entails of hoovering the living room, plumping up pillows, wiping down surfaces after every meal, polishing wood furniture, wipe down kitchen floors after making evening meal, wiping all the coasters that have been used, clean the bathroom everyday (sink, bath, shower, tiles, and toilet) and change the hand towels on a daily basis! This is because in warm, moist conditions, bacteria grows quicker. I change the bed-sheets at least twice a week for this reason too (I would honestly suggest doing this as well, I know it may seem like a lot, but you get faster at it, and it makes such a difference coming to bed with crisp, clean, bed-sheets regularly). I also always wipe my kitchen bin too on a daily basis as this is always being touched with dirty hands! Especially if I'm handling meat / poultry for dinner. And I don't do all of this in one go, I do it as and when I have a few spare minutes.

A big clean involves thorough cleaning of kitchen (hoovering, mopping, wiping cupboards, wiping fridge shelves). Hoovering entire house, including the porch, and wiping down everywhere like the skirting boards, and mopping the bathroom floor too.

As a 'reward' / 'treat' I love to end my daily cleaning by spraying the house with a nice scent, lighting a Yankee scented candle, and spraying the furniture with a scented spray that is suitable for sofas, carpets, rugs, etc.
