School after school provision and tax credits

Our school are looking to extend their out of school provision.

It currently runs for 1 hour 30 mins each morning and they are adding 2 hours 30 mins in the afternoon.

Am i right in thinking this means they will have to go on the childcare register with Ofsted and that means we could claim for these costs through tax credits?

I’m not sure whether they have to or not but can u not currently claim via the schools ofsted number if it’s ran by the school?

I dont think so

I have tried asking school via email but they just reply that they are registering for tax free childcare

My DDs school runs an after school club and breakfast club and I claimed part of the costs through tax credits. I just used the school Ofsted number.

Tax credits is a completely different thing to tax free childcare. Tfc the provider needs to sign up but not for tc?

IVEgotthePUMPKINS · 22/10/2018 12:59

Looney i thought they had to be on the childcare register?

They will be or they wouldn’t have an ofsted certificate? But as far as I’m aware an ofsted number is all you need to claim tax credits

providers can only accept tax free childcare payments if they're registered with Ofsted/Care Inspectorate, so if they are taking tfc they'll have to register.

Tax credits are also only available for people who use registered providers so you should be able to start claiming once their osted reg is through

Ty statistically

Spoke to lady in the office before and she said they have so many changes going on she has no idea what is what. Felt a bit sorry for her tbh

If it's school in house provision (rather than a separate company on school premise) they will already be registered as a school and so you can just use school ofsted number
