Halloween for novices

Never done it before, but the DC have asked and we've been invited to a Halloween party which will include t-or-t-ing around the neighbourhood.

How do you keep your children warm when they go trick or treating? Is it thermal underwear under the costumes?

My dressing-up-refusal-ASD-DS wants to go as a pumpkin... Will green trousers, orange t-shirt (again, how to keep him warm? It's short-sleeved) and a paper plate cut out in a pumpkin grimace, painted orange, that he can hold in front of his face, be sufficient? He has a dark green jumper too.

I saw someone on here suggested chocolate coated Brussel sprouts Halloween Grin Would this be too evil to take as my contribution? I don't want to give anyone food poisoning! Cook normally and cool immediately in cold water? Keep in fridge and coat in chocolate when cold?

i’m taking my DD (4) trick or treating this year for the first time and i wondered the same about keeping warm, it’s coat weather but it would cover up the costume!

Put the green jumper on under the orange t-shirt. If you're willing, you could paint a jack o lantern face on the orange shirt (or pin cut out shapes on it) and then he won't need a mask. It will be enough with other kids dressed up.

I quite like a vomiting watermelon for Halloween food. It's essentially fruit salad, very easy, and looks great.

Layers under the costume are the way to go for trick or treating.

It's not very cold here at the moment, no coats for school or anything. You could put them in an open coat, no one will mine either way.

I wouldn't do the sprouts, it seems a waste. Xmas Grin .

You can buy chocolates shaped/coloured to look like sprouts in the Tesco Christmas aisle.

Pumpkin cupcakes are nice (like carrot cake). I use tinned pumpkin.

Are you serious? Chocolate covered Brussel sprouts??!! That's what mean bastards do to kids as a trick when they dare knock on someone's door!

What's not to love? The best veg plus chocolate Grin

I wouldn't do many though, and I'd take some normal chocolate too! The party is starting at 4pm, there will be soup and everyone is contributing to the food.

It'll be 5-6 degrees here in the evening, that's definitely coat weather in my world!
