Put dregs of candle in dishwasher - have I killed it?

I wanted to save the jar it came in so I burnt it as far as it would go and put it on with a hot wash in the dishwasher

It's been on a few times now and it smells so strongly of the scented candle.

Everything has come out like it, there must have been so much perfume in it.

Problem is, it's not even a smell I like (was one of the prizes on the last Jo Malone game)

Please help!!

I do that all the time and it never leaves a smell.

Maybe run it a few times on the hottest setting with some extra rinse aid. Or boil a kettle, let it cool a little and pour it down the exit pipe in case some wax has gathered there.

Bicarb is good for shifting smells, so you could try adding some instead of dishwasher salt.

We used to do this in the bar I used to work in to clean the candleholders and it was never an issue. I’d just run it a few times with a hot wash and another dishwasher tablet and it should be fine.

I will blame you for the fatberg.

You rinsed candle wax down the drain?? Shock That was an incredibly idiotic thing to do! Wax solidifies as soon as it goes cold so what's it going to do to your drains? In future, sit the jar in a pan of hot water and then pour the melted wax into a bowl that has some kitchen roll in it, then when the wax has cooled, chuck it in the bin. Or if you have room, put the jar in the freezer for a few hours and the leftover wax should just pop out.

Howhot · 21/10/2018 20:22
