Child with gastric problems

Ds is 10 years. A few months ago he had what seemed like a tummy bug that no one else got and it dragged on with him being sick a few times each night, never in the day. He had a week off school.

A fortnight ago he was sick during Friday night several times. Not sick in the day but feeling slightly rough and then sick again several times on the Saturday Monday and Tuesday nights. Never in the day. Again, no one else was ill.He had another week off sick from school and then we had half term. He's due back to school tomorrow and yesterday and today he's had diarrhoea. Today's diarrhoea (too much info, sorry) was not too runny but came with a lot of griping pains.

Do you think I should take him to the gp? Or should I see how he goes? He does look pale in himself and he's more irritable than usual. He's very fit and sporty usually and he's lacking in energy at the moment.

The reasons I'm worried are each time he's been sick no one else has been ill and he has missed a lot of school.

If it's not something that's catching do you think I could send him to school tomorrow?

No, you can’t send him to school.

What you’re describing could still be gastro bugs. They don’t always involve violent D&V over a short period. Being OK in the day and then vomiting at night is surprisingly common. I don’t know why it is, but lots of illnesses seem to get worse at night.

Do take him to the GP though.

Thanks but isn't it surprising that each time this has happened no one else has been affected. We have other children here who I would have thought would catch it. That's what made me think I could maybe send him in.
