How can you find out if someone doesn't have a driving license?

Is there any way I can find out if someone doesn't have a license?

If you think they don't and are driving, report it to the Police.

No Government agencies don't give personal information to random members of the public with a suspicion or grudge.

kaytee87 · 21/10/2018 14:51

Why do you need to know? If you suspect someone is driving without a license then report them as pp said.

bearfood · 21/10/2018 15:03

I have been suspicious for a while...this person doesn't have a car but drives a friend's sometimes. Basically someone saw a message suggesting he hasn't passed his test and this would fit in with other little bits which have made me think he hasn't. I'm going to have to report I just wondered if there was another way first.

Basically it's a tenuous reason to report is what I'm saying

Or mind your own business?

justwantcheesee · 21/10/2018 15:11

They may be insured on a provisional liscence. Are they driving around with L plates? Kids in the car?

fastfooder · 21/10/2018 15:12

I agree mind your own business.

StarShapedWindow · 21/10/2018 15:19

I hate the idea people snoop for information on others like this. If you have a hunch why don’t you just ask them or report.

rainbowgrimm · 21/10/2018 15:19

Really surprised at the people saying mind your own business.
Different situation but I had to force my father from driving due to medical issues having held a clean licence for 50 years +. I made it my business & called the DVLA for the safety of him & everyone else.
I'd call non emergency police with no hesitation. If he's got a licence and insurance no problem.

Witchend · 21/10/2018 16:21

It's not a "oh well their loss" so mind your own business is it?

If he hasn't passed, he isn't insured for a start off. Plus the likelihood of him having an accident due to inexperience is higher.

If someone in that situation hit you/your car/your kids wouldn't you feel annoyed if people had known but not reported?

When I was 6th form I knew someone killed by a driver who was driving around despite not having passed. His excuse "I knew I was a perfectly safe driver, so I didn't need a piece of paper to say I was." He lost control of the car due to travelling too fast for the conditions.

fairypuff · 21/10/2018 17:05

Baffled at the "it's none of your business" comments. He may not have a license for a number of reasons - medical condition which means he's not safe to drive being one of them. Why wait until he kills someone before saying something?! Report suspicions now OP.

LikeIcare · 21/10/2018 17:34

No-one ever reports anything like this, or wants to dig around for information to report, because they care about people not being safe to drive - it's always because it's someone they don't like or are envious of in some way and they want them to be in the shit.

That's why a lot of people say mind your own business.

rainbowgrimm · 21/10/2018 19:12

Likelcare, please see my above post about reporting my father to the DVLA. It was not done for any of the reasons you claim. My life would of been a lot easier if I'd chosen to ignore it but I couldn't because I'm a decent human being who cares about inocent people getting hurt.
I couldn't live with that on my conscious and I judge those of you that could.

LikeIcare · 21/10/2018 19:33

But you had concerns i.e evidence didn't you? Not that you heard someone might not have a licence and drives a friends car sometimes and that's the only tenuous reason to report..

People don't take such an interest unless it's someone they don't like and are trying to fuck over.

user1471462428 · 21/10/2018 19:52

Please do report. A roadside check takes 15 minutes in comparison to someone’s life ending its trivial.

goingtotown · 21/10/2018 20:33

Likelcare
Maybe you’d feel different if a driver had no licence & insurance & you or your family were involved in an accident.

bearfood · 21/10/2018 22:43

Tbh it is my business. This is my dd's boyfriend. I was told he doesn't have a license by a friend whose dd goes out with one of his friends but I dismissed it as dd said she had seen his license. It later transpired that she couldn't remember which colour the license was but I asked him if he was insured in the friend's car and he seemed shocked I even asked and said of course he was etc.
Also at the beginning of the relationship an incident occurred where dd was in the car with him and his dad rang him and said if he saw him speeding again there would be trouble so we both thought oh well he must definitely have a license as the dad wouldn't let him drive about without one.
However, the other night he was showing dd a message on snapchat from his mate (the one whose car he drives) and when he went on the chat there was a message from the bf to the mate saying he was on his way to do his theory test, which he quickly swiped up. When dd asked he got annoyed and defensive and basically deflected it saying she should trust him etc which to me is a man caught out in a lie.

bearfood · 21/10/2018 22:45

Oh and said she was seeing things and the message said nothing like that.

Driving without a valid licence Crime stoppers 0800 555111

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 21/10/2018 23:38

Please report it. My family were driven once and never again by a friend, he drove atrociously. Years later he was celebrating passing his test. We never once thought he'd not got his license but it was so obvious. He had several scrapes and near misses.

hmmwhatatodo · 22/10/2018 00:36

Or you could just tell him to stop now and take driving lessons and a test or you will take it further?

MarilynsDressOnAVent · 22/10/2018 01:52

FGS I can't believe people are saying mind your own business. Definitely report him. Just a couple of weeks ago there was a bad crash a few towns over. A lad was driving his car but had no license. The 3 late teen passengers and the driver all nearly died in a crash. A couple of them have life changing injuries including the loss of a kidney. I would report a drunk driver in a heartbeat just as I would report an unlicensed driver.

OP your daughter's life could be at stake.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/10/2018 01:55

If the OP reports him then she is minding all our business! It is everyones business when someone isnt insured and could kill or maim through inexperience and arrogance.
