Can the flu vaccine be bought on prescription?

And if not, why not?

Also, why do adults have to have injections but children can have a nasal spray?

You’re not going to administer it to yourself though are you? Confused

The adult one is a super vaccine, 4 strains - not effective as a nasal spray

HellonHeels · 20/10/2018 23:11

You can pay for a flu jab at Boots or Super drug. You don't need a prescription. Costs around £15.

Not sure why adults can't get the spray.

You can pay to have the vaccine privately in most pharmacies. Go in and ask, it will be around £10-12. You need to be over 16. And they will do all the injecting bit for you.

The nasal spray is on restricted license at the moment, if your child or adult does not fall into the licensed age groups then it’s not an option. Sorry.

If you're entitled to it then it's free and if not you can pay. It's a vaccination not a medication that can be prescribed. Nasal spray is mild live flu but it's not very effective in adults so we have the injection. Parents are also more likely to allow spray over injection at primary age so better coverage of the germs in those most likely to spread it offering herd immunity.

Ahhh!! Did not know you can buy it privately.

Asda is £7 so cheaper than a prescription

From this year Boots and many other pharmacies are also doing it for children over the age of 10.
