Anyone else go out to buy specific things and forget them?

Today, for the second time in two weeks, I have been to town with dd2.

Last week we went and bought her a new coat, and tights for both girls. I wanted to get a cheap foundation and powder while we were in Primark but forgot.

Today...dd1 asked me to nip in Primark for new knickers while we were buying a few Halloween decorations and sweets. Aha! I'll buy them today, I thought...

Instead, I bought 2 packs of knickers, sparkly make up off the reduced shelf for dd2's face next week at school's Halloween disco, and a lippy.

Did I remember I wanted foundation and powder??

Did I fuck!

Dd2 had a blast chucking randomness in the basket in poundland though!

Yes. The other day I went to the supermarket just to get some teabags and a gift card. Came back with neither.

HenryMouse · 20/10/2018 16:50

My DH is the king of this. He once went out for apples and came back with a packet of sticky bows “because they were cheap” Hmm and peanuts. Confused

I put myself last a lot and have been known to get DH and DS something for dinner and not me. Must do better with that.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 20/10/2018 16:51

Dh does it all the time, particularly with the food shop.

I tend to always remember stuff for dh and the dc but forget stuff i want.

lucysmam · 20/10/2018 16:52

Henry I would have been sidetracked by the sticky bows too, since they were cheap Blush.

All the time ! Soon as I get home and put the key in the door, THAT'S when I remember what I went to town for!

HenryMouse · 20/10/2018 16:54

lucysmam They were Christmas ones. People had Christmas bows on their birthday parcels all year Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 20/10/2018 16:54

I came home with everything I went out for today plus a pair of tartan trousers

This is a rare occurrence

HemanOrSheRa · 20/10/2018 16:58

Miller's Magical number 7 (+/-2) theory, maybe?

GoodbyeSummer · 20/10/2018 16:58

Yes. I usually come back with chocolate instead of anything I've gone for. This happens even if I take a list.

bumblebee39 · 20/10/2018 16:58

Yes washing up liquid! I even bought freaking bathroom wipes and scourers, kitchen cleaner etc. But forgot the most vital thing on my cleaning supplies shop! I'm going to have to rinse the bottle out tonight and go get some tomorrow, because I have been shopping 5x since then and still forgotten it. Either that or I'll be washing up with shampoo 😂

BeatriceJoanna · 20/10/2018 17:00

All the bloody time.

I go down to the shop for, say, coffee and come back with bulging bags, put it away, put the kettle on and...Hmm

The people in my local Co op have got used to me going back once, twice and even (on one occasion) three times. I can remember useless stuff from years ago but if I don't have a list I invariably forget at least one item.

Don't even mention the countless times I make a list and leave it on the kitchen worktop.

bumblebee39 · 20/10/2018 17:00

Oh, and went out for milk the other day and came back with bread. Went back out came back with butter still no milk. Third time I managed to get milk Ffs!

lucysmam · 20/10/2018 17:03

Beatrice I often stick my list to the fridge with a magnet then forget to take it down Grin.

Glad I'm not the only one!

Dd1 is pleased with her knickers at least, she says they're much more comfortable to wear

Everyone knows that going into primark is like falling down a rabbit hole. You forget your own mind whilst you're there and just buy everything because it's cheap. I go in for one specific item, ie a belt, and come home £80 lighter without the belt. It's another world in there.

LemonRedwood · 20/10/2018 17:05

There was a whole run of woolworths ads based on exactly this Grin

EyeDrops · 20/10/2018 17:08

Aaaaall the time. Luckily I live close to the supermarket but it's still maddening!!

HenryMouse · 20/10/2018 17:09

HemanOrSheRa

DH’s seems to be 2 (+/-2) Grin

BeatriceJoanna · 20/10/2018 17:10

Glad I'm not the only one!

Reassuring isn't it?
I always put it down to having so much to think about. My sons, on the other hand, just think I'm old and scatty. Shock

HemanOrSheRa · 20/10/2018 17:30

HenryMouse Grin

hmmwhatatodo · 20/10/2018 18:09

Yes, but I also go to another room to get something and then come out 10 seconds later with something totally different . It’s quite worrying actually.

fussychica · 20/10/2018 18:36

Likewise. I'm old so that's my excuseGrin

HoosierDaddy · 20/10/2018 18:41

Not me today, bur DH was specifically asked to bring home Skips. Instead I got a reduced-price slightly icky fruit pot and 4 yoghurts. Not a crisp to be seen

lucysmam · 20/10/2018 21:49

Beatrice, it is reassuring!

hmmwhatatodo I also do that Blush. I went upstairs for my big cardigan the other day, came back down with cleaning cloths Confused. Had to go all the way back again when I realised I was still cold.
