Public/charity sector managers - how would you respond?

I recently returned to work after a long gap. I'm working in a junior position - which I enjoy - but I'm thinking about what next. I like what I do and could be happy with it long term - but I would also love an opportunity to shadow someone working in a strategic or policy role to see if that part of my brain still functions.

I was considering approaching some women in senior positions in local organisations with my CV to enquire about opportunities. Maybe a one off day shadowing.

Does this sound like a ridiculous idea? I'm a middle aged woman and I'm guessing it's usually bright young graduates or existing employees seeking opportunities.

I work in the Charity sector in a financial role . I don’t don’t think it’s odd , we have had a number of people come in for similar reasons

I work in a large organisation and it would be very unusual for us to get a request like that from outside the organisation, but that's possibly specific to us. I certainly wouldn't think it was ridiculous, and certainly not because of your age. Even if I couldn't help, I'd respect you for asking.

Ok, might depend on the organisation. But not a silly thing to do.
That's helpful thanks.
In my existing place of work would be ideal but not the right timing for it.
